What would the sim do? Topic

Something from last nights game had me wondering how the Sim would handle such an event:

Basically, bottom of the 9th, down 1 my SS comes to the plate (batting 8th in the AL)  he walks and is replaced for a pinch runner (backup CF).  My catcher comes up in the 9 hole and gets a single to LF, advancing the man on 1st to 2nd.  My backup SS comes in to pinch run for the catcher.  Both execute a double steal, followed by my leadoff man lacing a single to right, both runs score, home fans leave happy.  However, what if he flied out to CF, scoring the man from 3rd and the next two batters struck out to send the game to extra innings.  How would the sim have handled the defense in the 10th inning?

would the backup CF have stayed at SS and continued in the 8th spot in the order, while the other catcher replaced my backup SS who pinch ran for starting catcher?

or would they have allowed my backup SS (listed as  PR at the inning switch) to remain in the game at SS, while my other catcher would replace the CF who pinch ran for my starting SS in the 8 hole?

I suspect the 1st scenerio is what would happen.

The sim doesnt move players around defensively, but they do do double switches. I think it would have been handled like a double switch and gone with your second scenario.

I'd hope that you're right.  Almost wish that I could have held the runner up at 3rd and forced the other team to walk us to a win so I could find out for sure either way.  Would suck to blow a playoff game on that scenerio.
