New owners here with a question

There is an international player who went free agent as a six year minor league free agent.  He was never in the major leagues (zero ML service time) and was not on his prior team's forty man roster.   So, if we sign him to a one year major league contract does that mean in years two and three we can renew him--or does he become a free agent again after this year.   And if we can renew him, what would be his salary--he wants more than major league minimum now.

A link to the player would be helpful.

That said, if he is a minor league FA, in order to keep him in your organization, you will need to add him to your 40-man roster.

Once on the 40-man, since his ML service time = 0, he will re-sign until such time as he reaches arbitration.

If I haven't misunderstood what I have read on this awhile back, I think a minor league player, as long as he is on the 40 will never go to FA.

So you could sign him and (if you wanted to) you could send him back down with his one option that is left and never worry about him leaving as long as he stays on the 40man.

If you keep him on the big league squad he would go to arb after his 3rd season of ML service time, same as any other player.

I think you guys are misunderstanding his question.  He is asking what happens when he tries to sign a minor league player than has already become a free agent.  My advice is to sign him to a one-year deal if possible, since after that first season he will make 500k, since he will be pre-arbitration.  That being said, the guy you linked is pretty bad, so I wouldn't sign him for anything other than minor league filler.

You'd think but he's really gotten lit up in the minors and it doesn't appear that it's because he was overused.
