Can anyone tell me the exact formula for determining a school's prestige? I thought I had it figured out but now i've dropped again with a 2nd round NT loss and final RPI of 22. I realize the record wasn't that great but I thought RPI and tourney invitations had more to do with it.

YOur elite eight season dropped out of your four year window and your final four moves back another season and consequently lost weight as well.

You also had 10 losses and only 20 wins.  This looks right to me.

Not being smart, the question was, does anyone know the formula??? I don't care if it looks right, how is it determined???

Well, we DID answer, more or less.  The thing you left out in your equation was: The changes in the seasons which were represented in your four season prestige window.  A trip to the Elite Eight cycled out and was replaced by a second round NT.  A final four moves farther down the list and therefore received less weight.  As tkimble said, also, your win loss also contributes.  YOu also haven't won the CT in several years, and the season before this only went to round one.

No one knows the exact formula. It's complicated, I can't imagine it just translating easily even if WIS for some reason felt the need to share it with us (which I don't think they need to do).

But in a nutshell, it's determined based on your most recent four-year window, and your current four-year window is a drop from what  your four-year window looked like one season ago. (I'm not endorsing the four-year system, it is what it is.)

"the current system doesn't use a cumulative valuation of success over the past 4 seasons.  It's a weighted average over that time.  So a coach who has coached fewer than 4 seasons isn't at a disadvantage.  The valuation of experience is separate, and that is cumulative"

Not sure if that helps but its a response from wis. It will be changing soon though since thy are reworking the job process formula.

Thanks everyone, that is clear as mud huh?? lol ... I wasn't knocking any of the responses, I was just curious as to hard data if anyone had ever ran across it or formulated their own. I have another D2 team that isn't close to the same four year success and that team is at a B+ and last year we were ranked 11th in the final poll. Two straight first round knock outs, 10 loss season no post season, 17 loss season no post season. So i'm just trying to figure out the "it" factor if there is such a way to do that. I appreciate it guys.

I have never seen an exact formula for prestige.

Go for it - there is plenty of data out there in the history of every team - see if you can write one if you want.
