Job Process Stinks (Case Study) Topic

Here is a case study for you Seble.

Coach, thank you for your interest in joining our program. Unfortunately, we are looking for a coach who has demonstrated the ability to infuse a consistent winning atmosphere.

Tim Smith
President
University of Texas

Is the message I just got.

My career record is 558-177, and I have made the NT 21 years out of my 24 seasons, and 10 out of 12 at D1.  My D1 record is 271-90.  How is that not a consistent winning atmosphere?  Last 2 seasons I have made the Sweet 16, won 25 games, been in the top 15 in ranking and RPI.

Grrrrr.  I know I didn't make the NT 3 years ago, but I was rebuilding.  Can you not switch jobs within the Big 6 if you miss the NT once every decade?

Prior to that (jobs process doesn't care right now I know), I had 7 straight NT berths.

Were you rejected outright, or did another coach beat you out? What is the current prestige of Texas?
12/2/2010 11:34 AM
Rejected outright.  Its an A. I wouldn't mind getting beat by a better resume, lord knows there are better ones, but I should be allowed to apply and not have TX go sim.

Especially coming from Florida, a conference on par with Texas.

I like how Texas has 3 straight S16 appearences and drops to an A

Eh well, umpikes tooks Texas and he is a WAY better coach than me, so I don't feel too bad.

I had A+ loyalty and then sat out one season of HD.  Now after 4 seasons of coaching the same team I still don't have loyalty high enough to get another job.  That's my job process gripe.

I wish I understood how loyalty really works. I've been in the loyalty doghouse since leaving Stephen F Austin for Arizona State. At the time, I was leaving an S16 SFA team going to a "step down" Pac-10 loser. I tried for three straight seasons to leave the Pac-10 for a D prestige DI team to lick my wounds and never could. I met up with some friends again in DII to have some fun again, but I've horribly wrecked my prestige.

Yeah, its like watching Lostmyth's A+ Miss St squad in Tark get no coach because no one qualifies and have it take 6 walk ons and 2 540 rated guys. I'm sure the coaches in conference would rather have a mediocre coach do a slow bleed rather than have the conference have a gaping hole in it. A+ with 8 scholarships can't land more than 2 guys over 540. In two seasons, that job will be down to a B and with all those walkons, it'll be rebuilding for a while, meaning no one will want to take it again.

The whole "last four years" window has been, and always will be, borderline retarded.

i agree.  it also seems like one of the easiest possible things to fix.  why not just consider the whole time you've been at your current school?

If I understand right Sable is doing something to help in this area. Not a "complete fix", but making the last 4 yrs. meen less and the overall body of work more...
