Is this possible at a small conference DI school? Topic

I coach Texas-San Antonio in Smith.  I have yet to come close to proving myself at DI (I have a solid reputation as a DIII coach and only played two seasons of DII before jumping up to DI, so it's hard to judge my prowess as a DII coach).

But I did take a hiatus from my Texas-San Antonio a couple seasons ago, and as a result I'm now interested in cutting three or maybe even four of my current players.

On a budget for two open scholarships (with some added money thrown in), do you think it's possible to sign SIX players who would be solid for a small DI school (with D- prestige)?  I don't want to get more of the same by signing players who would be simply OKAY at a DIVISION II level.  Most of my current freshmen suck and looking at this upcoming pool of recruits I realize I can do A LOT better.

cut the freshmen, even if you can't fill all the slots, you'll be better off with the kids you can sign plus you'll get some scholly money for next season from the walk-ons.  If you skirt battles, you can indeed sign 6 for the price of 2.  I guess the only question is if these are good enough D-1 players you're looking at.  Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...

I think it is an ok Idea, but you just can't really battle anyone.  Still with a D- prestige you can't battle anyone except D2 schools anyway, so go for it.  Worst case you get the cash next year.
