Would you expect that a player that initially considered only your team (DII) would consider your team again without much effort if another team (DI) knocked you off but ended up not signing that player?

I've had two players that were considering me only for a couple of cycles that ended up considering DI schools (different schools) that recruited 6-10 players for 2-4 spots.  Essentially the guy that I was recruiting was really a backup option in case the higher recruits went elsewhere.  I knew it was possible that I was reaching pretty high for some good DII and adequate DI recruits.  I was hoping that if the DI schools signed their primary targets that my team would show up on the considering list again since I had put in enough effort early on to get considered and I'd have a decent shot at signing them.

I've done it before. You don't lose any of your previous effort unless you pulled the schollie.

So pulling the schollie will wipe clean previous efforts then? I had something very similar happen, except I pulled the schollie and couldn't get the guy to consider me after I had spent about 10K on him....Good to know

You can definitely still get the guy if the other schools pass.

I had this exact same thing happen with this guy:

I got him to consider me early, then Ohio State jumped on him so I quickly started pursuing other guys.  Didn't have enough money to land any of them and just assumed I was going to carry over a scholarship...Next thing I knew he signed with me because OSU had backed off of him, presumably because they landed their other targets.  As you can see, he ended up working out just fine :)

You can also send a sitemail to the coach of the other team and ask if the player in question is one of their primary targets or a backup.  No harm in that.

yeah just don't pull the scholarship offer.

Hey bow2, did the guy continue to have you listed as 'considering' after Ohio State jumped on him?  I had a similar situation but I fell off the radar after the player was considering the DI school.

i think once tOSU clears up all of its scholorships you'll get back in here easy. but i could be very wrong.

i'm not sure john....i honestly bolted for greener pastures as soon as they hopped on him and i never even checked on him again until i read that he had signed with me.

it was a stroke of luck really....so yeah i guess he must have kept considering me, because i never put any more effort into him and he still signed.

When that happens, I keep sending a phone call to stay on his radar. If the d1 team bows out, he is yours. If you where being considered but knocked off...should get a back up option through the call.

I didn't go back to the considering list once the other DI team filled his scholarships.  The C went back to undecided for a cycle.  I put some effort back into him (he was still a pulldown at that point so he wouldn't likely accept home visits or phone calls) but in the next cycle Georgia showed up and ended up signing him.  Not sure if he would've started considering me if no other DI school recruited him that cycle, but I never showed back up on the radar.  Eval messages however indicated that he liked my school.

I was hoping that I would immediately be on the considering list once he had completed his roster, but perhaps I had needed to keep calling him.

I  stopped recruiting because of a battle. I don't remember if the team was from a higher division or not. After the other coach finished recruiting, the player signed with me. It was a mess because I'd already filled the need with a different player. So I had  a glut of PGs that season.
