I'm switching my offense from fastbreak to Motion next season with my DIV I portland state team. What are the key ratings to look for in playing motion offense? It has been a few years scince I had a team on this game that played motion. Dont know if the new releases changed things.

How important is ATH, SPD, LP, PER ext. in this offense opposed to others?

Idk about anyone else, but I sorta recruit the same way for any def/off. I go for as much ath/spd I can get w/o a horrible def rating, and aim for high stamina since it helps to keep your best players on the court longer and fresher.

What defense are you running?

I'd lean towards ATH/SPD/PASS being a focus.  I think having big men who can pass is a nice bonus in the motion offense.  That and don't follow my example at Texas, San Antonio in Smith.  My team's prestige is poor enough that recruiting to the offense is almost impossible.  I just pick up what talent I can find; but I have had success with motion offenses at DIII.

I'd say I rely more on outside shooters, but that's just me.  The motion offense tends (from what I know of it), to be focus slightly more on the outside game.  That doesn't mean you shouldn't get bigs who can dominate inside, it just means that maybe you should have a little more depth at guard than at forward/center.

And you don't have to necessarily follow that advice.  I just tend to take ATH/SPD/PASS/PER to be most important in a motion offense.  By switching my old DIII Frostburg State team in Smith from a Fastbreak (I think) offense to a Motion offense and recruiting big time ATH/SPD/PASS players, my team went from DIII doormat to DIII powerhouse in just two seasons.

I don't know if the same success is possible at DI, but who knows?

well, compared to fb, ath and spd are less important and lp/per are more important. of course, ath and spd are always very important.

in the motion, ball handling and speed in your guards is particularly important.

At DIII I managed to get my Frostburg State to a 25-1 regular season record with a team that had a starting guard with a BH under 20 (per of 70+ and a pass rating of nearly 90).  I know that's small scale, but I'm not sure how important ball handling is in the motion offense, as compared to passing.  I think with the idea that in a motion offense there's constant passing, it's better to have players who can pass and catch (supposedly catching passes is related to the pass rating, not the bh rating) than to have players with great ball handling.

But again, that's based on one team I had at Division III, so it's not necessarily anything written in stone.
