Can this guy be an effective PG? Topic

We run a motion.  I signed 2 PGs in this class, but I really don't want to let a FR run my offense at the point if I don't have to.  I have 2 SR SFs and the backup looks like he could be a good PG.  Is there a position penalty in the new engine?  Even if there is, can this guy be a good PG?

I worry about his BH, especially against a press or a good defender in a M2M, but other than that, I think he will be ok.  As a point of reference, here are the 2 FR PGs I signed.

Byers is the more ready of those two, but I would prefer to get his IQs up to at least a C before I start him.

Yeah he'd be fine. I'd take Byers over them both though

I would do like you are planning and play Griffing at the point  until Byers gets his IQ up to at least a C (maybe a C-), then I would start Byers a couple of games and see if he is OK.

I'd say Griffing is currently your best option as a PG, and the other two are fairly equal.  They are not far behind him, though.

One thing I'd consider is a mix-and-match approach based on your opponent.  Byers is significantly more dangerous on offense than the other two, but they are both way ahead of him defensively.  So it might be a case of assigning Griffing / Greene to the position where the other team has their higher-scoring guard, so that Byers won't be exposed on defense.

LP can be useful for PGs.  I find the PGs I have with LP do a great job of getting into the paint and drawing fouls.  Since a disproportionate number of PGs have good FT shooting, I find this can make up for lack of PER.

Personally i would play Greene over Byers anyday, but start Griffing for now. You run a M2M, I think, and Byers only has 20 defense, so if you play a good PG he could torch you. That's just my opinion.

A season later, who would you start at PG now?  Greene looks a bit better to me, but I like Byers too.  The other thing I'm trying to figure out is if I should start Byers at SG or Rabe.  Right now I'm thinking I will start Greene at PG and Rabe as SG and have Byers back them both up.  I just worry a bit about Byers on defense since we play a M2M.  Here they are.  I would love to hear some of your thoughts...
