History Rewritten (1918 Season) -- NEED ONE Topic

1918 History Rewritten Progressive League

We have ONE opening for our 1918 season (34rd season)!!!

If you join now you can participate in the 1918, one round rookie draft.

The available team will be described in the next post. We will finish our 1917 season March 28 and expect our 1918 season to start no later than April 10.  Every season we have a one round per league (not enough players to fill the old 24 team WIfS league constraints) rookie draft around the allstar game.  The draft list is taken from baseball-reference.com using the new debut.  Click here for a sample from 1918.  Once the league's season is complete and the playoffs established we create the following season league number.  If you elect to join now you can participate in the draft (starts Feb 28).  Come join us as we play our way through the history of MLB.

The History Rewritten Theme is a progressive, partial roster keeper, salary cap theme league that started with the 1885 season and plan to work our way to the present day baseball season (some years down the road).

The History Rewritten Progressive Theme league is founded on:
1.) $80 MM salary cap (penalties apply, but not for 1st year of new owners)
2.) Returning 13 "keepers" carried over to the next season
3.) One round rookie draft every year (one for each league)
4.) Drafted players are exclusive to a team within each league (total of 15 exclusive players allowed per team - 5 pitchers max)
5.) No AAA nor DH on a team
6.) Trades -- Ok, but Exclusive players traded only within a league
7.) WW okay, but must stay within in theme year (cannot be exclusive players)
8.) Exclusive stadiums in each league

Check out our constitution (rules and regs) at click here :

Check out our exclusive players at this link (just page down to see the lists for the NL or AL league)

What makes us different?
1.) A salary cap (to test your research skills)
2.) A 13 keeper requirement (can you plan ahead and build a dynasty or a one shot only, or just struggle to fit in the cap?)
3.) Exclusive players list (draft to build a team, without wading through months of draft threads)
4.) Salary cap penalties for missing the keeper requirement (display your planning & GM skills)
5.) A number of committed owners that enjoy the league (usually one or two new players every other season -- fairly stable, fun bunch)

We've got a good core of guys that play season after season and hope to be the longest running progressive theme at WifS. Four owners are original to the league.  Five owners have 25+ seasons with the league, while three more have 15 seasons as a minimum.  That's 12 owners with long term ownership in the league.  The other half of the ownership has averaged 7 seasons with the league.

Come test your GM skills with a great bunch of owners.

Please post or sitemail me (sockless_joe) if you are interested in joining our league.

NL League -- West (TEAM #1)

Team: Brooklyn Naps
Past Owner: Zeuspole
Stadium: WhatIfSports Park (1.00 HR LF/RF:0/0 1B:0 2B:0 3B:0)

Exclusive Players:
Max Carey, OF -- 7 great season left, not too costly, with near 0.300+ average and A+ range
Walton Cruise, OF -- cheap platoon OF
Wally Pipp, 1B -- good offensive and great defensive 1B with career years in front of him
Aaron Ward, 2B -- well rounded 2two-bagger getting fulltime play beginning in 1920
Zack Wheat, OF-- double digit homeruns seasons pending
Whitey Witt, OF -- pretty good OF over a short period in 1920's
Stan Coveleski, P -- just getting started, pitches till 1928; very good pitcher with and low oav/whip
Tom L. Hughes, P -- last season is 1917, could be great RP
Rube Marquard, P --  great pitcher till 1922, reasonably priced
Dazzy Vance, P -- Doesn't get started til 1922, then he's a strikeout machine

This team has won the league's WS several times and always has a strong core of players.  Dazzy Vance and Aaron Ward are in their minor league system.  All the rest of their exclsuive players will have to be on your 1918 roster if you wish to retain their exclusive rights.

A new owner has a one time only exemption from our salary cap rule so you can build your team to your requirements. As a first season owner we don't enforce the 13 returning players in order to qualify for the full $80 mill salary so you can keep your better players and put your mark on this team.

You may also change the team name and the ballpark (based on availability). The available parks are:

Available NL Ballparks (1918)

Ballpark (Years) 1B 2B 3B HR-L HR-R P.F.
Ebbets Field  1913-1957  -1  +1  0  +1   +1  1.02
Griffith Stadium 1911-1960 0 -1 +1 -2 -2 0.94
Navin Stadium 1912-1937 -1 -1 0 +2 +2 1.04

Returning owners with stadiums that cease play by 1917 will get the first selection at ballparks based on reverse standings order. Then new owners get their chance to change ballparks. Ballparks are exclusive to each league.

great league with some very good owners.   Never a problem with attitudes.  Never a bump with ownership.  C'mon give it a try.
