Is averaging 15 ppg on 56% shooting. Granted, he has very nice sp/ath for a DIII player, but he also has basically no per or lp to speak of. I just don't think that a guy who basically can't shoot should be able to dominate offensively ... a solid secondary contributor, perhaps, but not a dominant force. Wondering if others agree or disagree.

Athleticism 75 3
Speed 69 5
Rebounding 53 6
Defense 74 6
Shot Blocking 20 1
Low-post 26
Perimeter 15 1
Ball Handling 62 5
Passing 36 4
Work Ethic 67 7
Stamina 91 2
Durability 29

Interesting ... comparing this player to this quote from "What Makes a good scorer" thread

For guards, I think that means anywhere from 60/60 ATH/SPD to 40/80 ATH/SPD with 70+ PER and 60+ BH. Some LP is nice (20+). These numbers produce points per minute. You need high ST (90+) for high PPG. For bigs, I think 50+ ATH and 80+ LP.

Granted no PER, but looks like Allen Iverson.

Agree. I sort of get the logic; a guy with high athleticism, BH and speed can make his own shots and account for his lack of natural shooting skill. But they should not be able to produce like the guy in your example. With his ratings I'd expect him to routinely clank shots off the rim in shootarounds, which shouldn't bode well for when you've actually got guys guarding you.

I agree...his shooting accuracy is far superior to what I'd expect.

Another good example of this: http://www.whatifsports.com/hd/PlayerProfile/Stats.aspx?tid=3778&pid=1588124.

An awesome athlete, to be sure.  And he probably get 3-5 easy buckets a game (pressing team, this player alone avgs 3 steals/game).  But he is a more extreme example of the first player.  Not even a great ball-handler.

girt - I like this aspect of the game, none of us knows the exact formula, but to have bh/ath/sp/stam/iq and not just per affect shooting is one of the great aspects of the game.

if per (or LP) determined fg%, the game would be less than it is now.

One of my most fun players ever in this game was very close to what you described - charles 'magic' critchfield, he won 2 or 3 national titles for west conn in the old tark d3 days.

OR, I agree that there should be many factors (not just per and/or lp) that help determine fg% and the ability to score.

But what I'm saying is that I don't think it make sense for a sf like that to be a dominant offensive player without any shooting ability (pe or lp) goes above and beyond what I would consider to be reasonable.

girt - what is the guy's 3 point shooting like? does he take many 3s? i personally would only have a problem with this if the guy was draining 3s. but i don't have a problem with a guy who isn't a great shot making a lot of shots within 10 feet of the bucket, especially if he can get open looks.

i agree with OR that this is a great aspect of the game. one of my most productive players was on a mediocre d1 team, which he lead to the elite 8. he had like 48 per and only 60 ath, but 100 spd/bh and ~95% ft shooting. so he only took a 3 now and then but he was able to make a low-mid 50s on his 2 point attempts and the free throw accuracy took him from an efficient scorer to a super efficient scorer. to me, this is a fantastic kind of player because in many cases all you see on teams is the traditional long jump shot guards and pound it inside bigs. adding a 3rd type of scorer to a list of possibly only 2 is a big deal to me.

I don't like this type of player and would like to see it changed, but can live with it since others like it.
I just think it defies logic.  Put Michael Vick on an NBA team, and he would get killed despite being a freakish athlete with great speed.
Plus, a zone should completely neutralize this guy.  The only theory on him being able to score should be that he is getting layup after layup and fouled because of superior Ath/Speed and BH.  Play a tight zone (or have Dwight Howard at center), and this guy should get no where near the basket.  Looking at the second examples game scoring list, I don't think this is happening at all.

Girt, you and OR answewred yourselves what I was gonna say. Athleticism and Rebounding were gonna be my answer and to have the stats that this guy has at D111, is the answer. He also has a pretty damn good WE.

I agree with you girt, but I'm a bit of a PER/LP whore myself.  I think it's rather disgusting to see a guy like that shooting 56%...I mean both "shooting" ratings are below 30.

Reminds me somewhat of Stacey Augmon from the old Runnin' Rebels of UNLV.  Not a good shooter but was so athletic that he could score other ways.
