I have 7 scholarships to fill. I have a message that says 6 is the max. Can I recruit 7 four season players and redshirt 1 of them?

It appears to me that 2 and 3 season players are in high demand, and I am not sure if I can even get 1 that is decent.

I don't believe so.  My suggestion if you can't find some transfers you like, just blow your cash on scouting and the 6 scholarship, and take a walkon for the scholarship money next season.

Six is the max for one class level.  You can't RS the 7th player because he would still be counted in that class. All you can do is try to find a JUCO or transfer or else take a walk-on.

Thanks for the responses.

I just received this message in my inbox from a player I never contacted. I am a D3 school and he was at a D2 school. Would I need to recruit him as a D3 player or a D2 player?

Hi Coach, my name is XXXXXX. I'm a 6'5" PF and I'm transferring to a new school.

I'm ready to get some revenge on my old school and I'd love to do it as a member of your team.

If you got that message, he'll available to you now as a D3 recruit

He should show up on your D3 search.  Unless they changed it, guys that contact you usually suck - I just delete them automatcally now.  I would just do normal recruit searches.  If he's good you will notice him that way.  If you are particularly looking for a non-FR, you can search by eligible years.

typically this has been my experience too...with guys sucking...but i recently had a kid transferring from Clemson (where he scored 6+ppg as a frosh) contact me at a D3 school.  He was my starting SF as a soph and will see a pretty heavy workload the next 2 seasons

If they have an actual history and played last season, they can be decent.  If they are a random new player ("I live around the corner. Check me out!"), they usually suck

Thanks everyone.

I am in a situation where I have 7 scholarships to fill. This is my first season with the team and I took them as a rebuild.  They had a good record last season but looking at the returning players and me coaching them I don't expect them to be good this season. This recruit is a senior and he does not show up on my search. I checked him by state for Division 2 and 3. He is also better than any non 4 season player that shows up on my scouted states. I am thinking of grabbing him as a 1 season player in a rebuilding season.

I would go after him, but don't be surprised if you still have to work for him. Sounds like a player that may be able to help you...

I went ahead and signed him. Here is the player William Lynch

He was the perfect fit. I understand he is not a stud but I had 7 scholarships to fill and I don't expect to compete this season. He will be gone after 1 season and I can recruit someone long term next season. He is also going to be one of the best 5 players on this team.
