Ok.  So this next year I have five seniors graduating, and one redshirt freshmean starting his first playing year...

would you generally, try to recruit for all five slots..or pour the money, say, into three of them to try to get top-notch players, let the other two stay fallow and recruit nexzt year(ALso balancesw out classes).  In other words, is it more valuable to get a few studs or to have a large class of seniors?

We're talking about DIII here; at the lower levels I basically always try to fill my classes. It's not like DI where studs (often but certainly not always) cost a lot more. At DIII there just aren't many battles. I just don't see all that many occasions where you really have to pour the money in as you described above. That said, I wouldn't just jump for five guys at once; I would make sure you feel comfortable that you have the core of the class (say, three) and then move on to your 4th and 5th guys.

Yeah. . usually I identify my 'blue chips' make sure I have them, and then bargain hunt for the remaining slots with what I have after they have signed.

I only go for Division 2 players when I am at Division 3. Make a big list of players that fit your minimum stats. Call them. Then wait for ones that say they are a backup to tell you they are "recruitable". Once they say that, then get them to consider you. Once you have your spots filled, then try to pull down a player to replace the weakest player you have.

Well, yes.  Its what I did to get Ferrell and Paul Davis before him.  Definitely pulldown.  But in your case the thing you seem to be saying is that you would try to fill all of the slots at once.

I try to fill all 5 slots with the first 5 players that match the criteria I have searched for. They would all be players I would be OK with having on my team. But I try no to spend too much to get them on my team. Then, once I know my 5 slots are filled, I will try to go for the more elite players. This way I am not stuck with multiple walk-ons.

agreed +2, make sure you have a "solid" 9 or 10 guys first. Than if there is time or money left over, round out your class but don't waste money on guys to just fill in 12 slots and waste a scholly. It's better to take 1 or 2 walkons (which will drop off your roster at the end of the season), than to fill the last 1 or 2 slots with schollie duds.
