800 Rated D3 Player? Topic

Has there ever been an 800+ rated d3 player? I have a player that is currently 715 (gained 60 in his JR year) and probably will end in the 750-770 range w/o a RS. If he had a RS, he might come close to 800. Has there been one over 800?

Here's the player:

I have now clue, but 762 is my best, currently on my John Jay squad in Knight in the NT.  I have a Sr on my WIllamette squad in Tark that just started the season in Tark and is sitting at 736.  But I'll bet there is better...

This guy is at 749 at the end of his junior year and with really high stamina, WE or durability probably could have made it

I think he's gonna end up around 770. His growth is petering out with only 14 pts left in per.

No idea, but at some point you're just talking about WE and DUR.  I mean, how much better is that guy than my 605-rated guy, Jeffrey Borrego?

He's certainly better, but he's only like 30-40 better in cores.

My point isn't to denigrate your guy; he's a phenomenal D3 player.  I'm simply wondering how impressive it is to get to 800 with 80/80 WE/DUR versus a 700 guy with slightly less cores.

Guys, when you talk about best teams and players ever in D3, there's one thing you need to remember.  I realize that most of the coaches playing now weren't around for this (Alblack is one who was and can verify.  Vandydave too, although he doesn't seem to frequent the forums much anymore), but a D3 coach found a glitch in the system and recruited nothing but highly rated D1 players to his D3 squad.  Won all his games by ridiculous margins.

Was it legit?  No, but it happened.  Do we count that team in the "Best Ever" argument?  Probably shouldn't, but they existed.  "Best Player" argument?  Probably shouldn't, but they existed.  Of course, that was back in the peach basket era of HD and a lot has changed since then, but the fact is, none of the teams or players that you guys are nominating for the "Best Ever" could've touched that squad.  Not trying to be an ***, just telling it how it is.

My thinking is, since the engine (and overall game, for that matter) have changed so much since the start, the "Best Ever" arguments should be specified by things like Pre-potential/Post-potential, Pre-engine change/Post-engine change, things like that.  Hell, when the game first started, a coach didn't even have control over which players took three point attempts.  It was a team setting, not individual and you might have your power forwards and centers launching nothing but shots from behind the arc.  Game's come a long way........

ever been a 900 rated d2 player?

ATH SPD REB DEF BLK LP PER BH PAS WE STA DUR FT Total
begin  69   55   35   31   26  36   54  43   41  57   62   51  C+  560
end  91   81   84   49   38  65   85  77   71  82    90   78   A-  891

closest D2 player I had to 900.  Seasons 24-28 in Allen.  Just a few seasons before potential started and you were just about able to dictate how high a category reached with additional practice time.  But it was very rare to go up more than 5 points a season in SPD/ATH/DEF

I remember the good days were you could pick a category and make it go up 5 points a season with 20 minutes.  SO you could basically mold them how you wanted and with the calls loophole you could pulldown cheaply.

Lostmyth had at least one on his D2 Iba team, OR.  SF, I believe.  I had an 855 on my Northeastern State team named Zhuang Mang.  That was way back when the ratings ususally capped around 90, but you could get them up to 92 or 93 during the season (remember those days).  Thought I was doing really good with him until I saw Lost's guy.  I want to say he ended up somewhere around 915 or so.  Absolute monster.  'Course both of the guys mentioned were also pre-potential, so with the caps on potential now, we might not see one again.

Lol, good stuff. Even when I first started (which was after the craziness that emy described), the starting ratings were simply higher. I remember signing Damon French (out of TX) for my Redlands squad, and he was over 60 to start with in reb, lp, bl, def and ath. Just a monster. I'd be absolutely thrilled to get a guy like that as an elite DII recruit now. I think he's still the all-time leading scorer at Redlands.

Dan, do you remember who the coach was that I was talking about that recruited all the D1 players to his D3 squad?  Slipped my mind and I can't remember now in my old age......

Was it tdowdy?

Sounds right, but I can't remember with 100% certainty.
