World Career Leaders opinions. Topic

I am currently doing the top 20 World Career Leaders. I am thinking in the next 3 to 4 seasons many of the top 20 players in each category will retire. That means updating will become much easier for me as there will be little movement.

Currently I update for Hitters-HR, RBI, Hits, SB, and BA.... Pitchers-Wins, Saves, Strikeouts, and ERA. Owners-World Series Victories..Hall Of Fame(My own opinion).

I am considering starting another thread where over the next 6 to 12 months I will expand the top 20 to the top 50, and maybe even top 100. Once that thread is fully functional then I will stop updating this thread.

What I am looking for is this something that is desirable for people who currently read the World Career Leader thread? It's obvious if you currently do not read the listt that expanding the list matters zero to you. Is there something else you would like me to add to the list? Averages is a pain to me so its doubtful I will add cats like Slugging or OBP. I would consider cats where stats are added like doubles and triples. Thanks to the first couple of seasons Triples would probably be worthless to read, it would be dominated by early year players.

User (Total) wins
User Win % (5,000 game min. ?)
User Playoff (Total) Wins
User Playoff Winning % (200 game min. ?)

Not sure how difficult it would be to obtain those numbers but that kind of ranking (per Champions) would be great!

I would have to click on all 32 owners as each world rolls over. Currently I just look at the most recent champion and see if they have 5 or more World Series Victories.

Yeah that would be tedious...hmmm

How about runs scored for hitters.  And great job with this stuff btw.

If it is possible, adding a couple of longevity catagories for pitchers (Games, Games started), and for hitters (Games, At Bats) to honor the players who were able to perform long enough to stay on the roster 15-20 years would be nice. However, what you have done so far is very good also.

All categories that are not percentages are a possibility.

I do check the thread about once or twice a month.  I love it!  I'm curious though, why do you say that percentage categories are difficult and counting stats are not?  I don't understand how they'd be different.

Career doubles doesn't interest me at all, but career OBP and SLG are actually relevant numbers that are interesting.

For what it's worth, I also feel top 100 is insane and probably too much work for one unpaid person.  WIS should give you a few free seasons for keeping this going this long!!!  But if you did top 40 or top 50 that would be awesome!

The hard part about percentages is that the numbers can go down and can be easily overlooked for that reason. Its easy for me when I know what the floor is, for example the player in 20th has 800 Home Runs, I can run through it quickly and notice all players with 800+............Lets take BA, lets say 20th place overall has a career BA of .350, the guy in 15th has a bad season and drops from .353 to .348. I will overlook him dropping out of the top 20 because his career BA is now under .350...Doing BA and ERA slows me down, irritates me, and forces me every once in awhile to look at the players on the list to make sure I did not leave someone in the top 20 for multiple seasons who actually dropped out of the top 20. I dread doing those 2 categories......

Maybe some day in the far future(something like summer of 2012) I will consider those 2 categories when alot of players are retired and there is not much movement on the list, until then I would rather not add more percentage categories.

I doubt I will do top 100 until the top of the list is full of retired players, but I think short term top 40 or 50 is realistic. The biggest thing that slows me down is the daily updates. A world like Cochrane(because they have a lot of players on the list) can take me 20-30 minutes to update. For that reason until there is a lot of retirements I think I will start working on top 50, but only do updates for players who move into the top 20.

Good explanation, I wouldn't have thought of that. Maybe do top 40 for counting categories and leave top 20 for era and BA. Then in a year and a half of real time expand to top 50 for all categories and add OPS?

Thats a consideration. I think once say 90-95% of the top players retire adding in percentages will be tolerable. I might start working on some of the cats this weekend. I think its going to take awhile which is fine because I figure most top players are 3-5 seasons from retiring.
