I don't know if this is a dumb question, but I'll ask anyway.  Is there a way to find out what type of offense and defense a recruit plays at their high school before you go spending money on them.  I've targeted some pretty good recruits, but later found out that they don't run the type of offense or defense I run.  So I end up losing money on recruits I don't want.  I'm asking if there is a way to find this out before you go calling their hs coach and losing 15 bucks?

The only way I know of is to track from someone else from that HS- I believe each HS has a set O/D

Phone calls to coaches and scouting trips will provide that information, although you may have to place a few calls or do a couple of scouting trips to find out.

I don't know why you're only interested in kids who know your sets.  If there are 2 extremely similar players, then sure use it as a tie-breaker, but to say you wouldn't recruit a player because he didn't know your sets is just crazy. 

But to answer your specific question, yes, coach calls and scouting trips are the only way to learn, and as itest says, it may take a few.

If you are only targeting kids who run your O/D, you are making serious errors in recruiting.

Well that's good to know. HAHA.  I've been doing that all along because I thought they'd have a better handle of my O/D.

Assuming you spend 20-25 practice minutes on offense and defense,  they will have C or B iq's by their sophomore year even if they start off as an F.  Like acn said, as a tie breaker it is a valid concern but generally I don't worry about it with freshman.

Now if I have a spot in my staring lineup I will definitely target transfers with high iq's in my system.
