Recruiting against DI simmy.. Topic

I coach N.Florida in Smith DII.  (A prestige) There are two guys in my area (80, and 280 miles away) that I am very interested in.  At the start of recruiting both are being recruited by DI sim's.  One school has 7 open scholarships and is 670 miles away.  The other school has 6 open scholarships and is 930 miles away.

Is it a waste of my time to try to swipe them away from DI simmy?  Is it possible? I am working with about $12,000.

Any thoughts on the potential of me winning the recruiting battle before I begin it would be appreciated.

Thanks

Mileage for SIM doesn't matter. They recruit everyone as if they were (I believe) 270 miles away.

Your chances depend on the prestige of the SIM and if the kid is a primary target. Check FSS tonight - if simmy is tight with the kid, don't bother. And if they're above D/D-, probably wasting time and money.

If things haven't changed, distance has no effect on the expenses a sim-coached team utilizes in landing recruits.  But things may have changed, being at a lower-tier DI school myself, I tend to avoid battles with sim schools more often than not.

But just to put things into perspective, I'm a low-end DI school in a pretty terrible conference with one open scholarship, and I have around $20,000 to spend (which is minuscule compared to an elite conference school).

Not going to say it's impossible, but I certainly wouldn't battle for both players.  Choose one if you really want to go into a battle... And just be weary, that winning won't necessarily be easy.  Three seasons back I fought a D+ prestige sim-coached DI school (they may actually have been C- prestige at the time, I cannot say for certain) over a recruit (while I was a D- prestige DI school) and lost despite dropping around $11,000 on the kid.

I am in the same position jward! With the new recruiting changes I was scared to even attempt to battle them. I am interested and curious in seeing on the what the vets have to say about this question...thanks

Looks like simmy has given some attention but the recruit is very open to other offers.....  I am 80 miles away.  They are a DI school with a D+ prestige.  Another thing to consider is the recruit is a transfer.  Does that play into the amount of money that a DI sim may have put into him?

Being a transfer makes no difference. With the recruit not being a priority for the SIM, and the fact that they're a D+ I would say you have a chance, but it won't be easy or cheap considering what you have to work with. But I believe it could be done with one of the two recruits. Good luck!

I must be missing something here.  I didn't think transfers showed up on FSS.  And if they don't, how are you getting info about him being "very open to other offers"?  That sounds like Word on the Street terminology, which is only under FSS, right?

Maybe he's transferring from a CC or JC.  I have several of those guys on my FSS list, with full scout reports.

This is probably what he meant.  I've just always referred to those guys as JuCo players, never really thought of them as transfers (I guess because there's a separate search category for each, JuCos and transfers).  You're probably right though.

Yeah he is a JUCO.  Sorry should have made that more clear.  I actually chickened out and went another direction.  Although now, my other guys has been swiped by a DI BCS school crazy enough.  So, maybe next time around.  Thanks for the info though.  Your advice is appreciated.
