frank, dont focus so much on the OVR rating -- this number could be artificial if the recruit had a high DUR and STA, but lower rating in "core" attributes. Each player and position, and even depending on the style of O/D you adopt, has different core ratings. You need to learn and train yourself to focus on those "core" attributes as it relates to each player and the position you envision that recruit playing. It is not uncommon to recruit a SG knowing from the start you will practice and play that player at SF, or recruit "post" players without regard to whether their "listed" position is SF/PF/C. Eventually you may decide that if you run the flex, you are not so concerned about a "post" players BH or PA, therefore, you may recruit a "post" with a lower OVR because the player he would be compared to has high BH and PA but not other ratings you value in "post."
The faster you learn to recruit by "core," the faster you will improve at HD (and with success will come fun and you will be less likely to quit). Also, the faster you learn to focus on "core" and not OVR, then you can begin to determine what that player is likely to improve at, by how much, and where to focus your practice minutes. It is incredibly common to not practice all categories for all players. In fact, if you are practicing all categories for all players, you probably will not maximize that players potential growth and max contribution to your team.
