What are people's experiences with such low health players?

The guy is currently an IFA, so I'm not going to post him, but he could be a stud hitter.

Would a high dur help or hurt (the projecteds say 90+ dur)?

I know it's luck of the draw for the most part, but does his risk of injury shoot up significantly when it's that low?

I think a high dur helps a bit, since a tired player is more prone to injury.

Yes, 40 health is pretty low.  I know this forum is full of "My 98 health stud just went down for 276 days!!!!  THIS IS BROKEN!!!" but the lower health guys get more injuries.   60 is when I start downgrading players.   40s is pretty low and 20s screams "I'm getting injured every year!!"

Yeah, that's what I figured.  I have a ton of propsect money because my entire team is young, so I basically can pick the best IFA and get him.  The guy will end up being a decent OFer with a low end of 95/95/65/65/70.  Not the greatest hitter of all time, but easily a .900+ career OPS, and probably leaning towards more towards .975 than .900 if I develop him properly.

Problem is, a couple of injuries and his progression is stunted and he ends up being an .850 guy and a waste of a lot of IFA money.

What phase of the season are you in?  If it's Spring Training, I'd pass due to the health rating.  If it's Game 130, you're likely to lose the $$ anyway, so you might as well roll it on this guy.  At 40 Health, though, he's almost certain to have at least a couple of long-term, ratings-clobbering injuries somewhere along the line.

Lots of injuries but, with 4 health, you'd have expected a lot worse.

Early, about 20 games in.

That was my thinking.  It would be a no-brainer if it was late in the season, but my concern is two-fold: (1) his health makes him significantly less valuable; and (2) someone better might come along anyway.

Good lord, imagine that guy with a 70 health.

Those ratings are nuts.

This could make me re-think the health rating.  I've seen players with health ratings in the 30's get more injuries than this.

The health rating works pretty much as intended.   He just didn't suffer much from his 4.  It was a pretty weird result.  Most of us expected him to get less than a 1000 BL AB before injuries ruined him.

Catastrophic injuries, which destroy development, are way more common among pitchers than hitters, and maybe more common among 2Bs than other position players.  As long as you don't get one of those he'll develop fine...  I stay away from pitchers with 40 health but am willing to take a shot at a position player; just remember to write off about one 15-day DL stretch per season (probably a bit less than that on average).

If you chose to make him a DH, I believe I'm correct in saying that would cut his injury likelihood in half.

If only I was in the AL!
