Giving credit where it is due, this was Rails' idea. That said, I think it's a great one, so I wanted to bring it over here to the main forum to see what others thought and whether there was some drawback I am missing.

Essentially, film study would be an additional individual practice category that would help players improve offense or defense IQ above and beyond the team practice time. Improvement would likely be less quick than full team improvement, as it should, but this would seem to be a very useful and realistic addition - particularly in the case of seniors who have capped out or transfer students who do not have experience in the O/D sets.

"ok team...johnson, you have 5 minutes of film study today. williams, you have 1 minute. billups gets 12, he might actually see a majority of last game's 1st half!...

even as a team practice activity i think its a bit silly to watch less than 20 minutes of film in any sitting

I think it's ridiculous that shooting 3s for 3 minutes maintains your per rating, but I don't think realism is really what we're going for with the minutes.

I like the idea.  It gives another dimension and adds another way to build your team.

jetwildcat, I never really thought of the minutes as being actual "minutes" - (because really, my dumbass SG isn't going to suddenly pass if he spends 20 min a day "studying" - what, 5 min per class?) - but instead as a portion of effort. As isack24 indicated, if it's actual "minutes" none of the practice categories really makes sense.

Count me as a dissenter.

I like the idea in theory actually, but I'm of the opinion that the new update (when does it stop being called new?) is putting too valuable a premium on WE.  This would make the high WE players even more valuable.

yeah i guess the minutes thing doesnt translate anywhere, LOL. "but coach, i know i'm practicing free throws for 6 minutes a day, but i need that 7th! i'm getting worse!"

LMAO just catching up on this because I'm bored at work on Friday afternoon and I'm literally laughing out loud. I always thought of them as hours, which now that I think about, makes even less sense.
