Recruiting and informing of redshirt Topic

Any input on how much must be spent to get a incoming recruit to accept a redshirt?  I am sure it varies some based on prestige.... just trying to see if I have enough $ to make it work.  would prefer not to have him come off 'considering us'

I've always done 3 home visits. I will throw in a campus visit as well if the recruit is clearly elite or in the upper echelon of the division.
