Can you get away with a broken minutes promise? Topic

I promised a guy 20 mpg and it will be tricky to meet that goal without hurting my chances of winning some games.  He should get at least 17 mpg, but it will take some doing to get him to 20 by the end of the season.

Has anyone ever broken a promise like this and had the player transfer out, or on the other hand, not transfer out?  If he is possibly going to transfer will I definitely get an email at some point in which he complains about his minutes?  Is it possible that he will remain happy, even if the promise is broken?  Does it make a difference if the 20 minute goal is nearly met (say he gets 17-19 mpg by the end of the season) as opposed to being missed by a large margin?  If I don't see any signs that he is unhappy (complaining email, work ethic drop) than can I assume that I am safe?

There's a percentage that you have to get to, it's pretty high (90% of promised minutes?) or else you will get complaints and a WE drop and the risk of a transfer.  If you don't get the inbox messages then you are ok.

I think 17 and he's gonna complain. Most I have ever missed is 0.8 minutes on a 15min promise. Why don't you let the FR player 30 in your 10th out of conference, which you have a huge team edge. And against certain matchups in conf play, have the guy go for 30-35min.

I would start him against weak SIM AI teams, bring the minutes up there. When you promise a guy minutes, he doesn't differentiate between playing against UW-Green Bay and playing against Duke. The player only looks at the average. So if you are confident that you will beat your opponent, give him more minutes as a cushion.

I've come up 2 minutes short on 20 minute promises and close to 3 on 25 minute promises without complaints.  You have to be close, but if you aren't quite there you should be fine.  If they send you the e-mail you better start compensating a bit.

I just got the complaining e-mail andhis work ethic dropped back 2 points (to where it began). Right now he is at 15.3 mpg, so I am going to start working it up toward 20. I wonder if the 2 points are lost forever or if they will instantly return at some point.

I had a kid transfer after I promised him 25 minutes a game and he only played 23.  He was A10 freshman of the year and second leading scorer on my team as well.  That along with a pretty big hit in my reputation made his departure really hurt.  I wish I could've seen that coming.

If you get him the minutes he wants from here on out the work ethic will rebound.

get his average up, and keep it there a few games and he'll send you a message saying he knew he could count on you and his WE will return and all will be well in the kingdom - unless you fall below that threshold again the next time he thinks to check out his stats.

Just to finish this thread out, will tell you what happened. Once I got him above 18 mpg, I recieved an email thanking me for keeping the promise.  I am guessing that since 18/20 is 90%, that then 90% is the threshhold for keeping him happy.  Whether it is 90% for every player, I have no idea.  Could it vary depending on the personality of the player?  A last footnote is that I didn't get the lost w.e. points back until he got above 19 mpg.
