Opinions (Playoff format) Topic

I know that WIS (Open leagues) and various theme leagues are set up like MLB when it comes to playoff format w 4 teams, and in MLB I love it because its so exclusive, WIS i'm not so sure.  Just wondering what others think about the playoff format.  Only reason why i'm asking is because I get kinda tired of seeing a team thats just at .500 make the playoffs and a team w/ 90plus wins, sometimes even close to 100 wins not make it.  I've been on both sides of it and when I was closer to .500 making the playoffs w/ 4-6 other teams having a better record not making it well it felt kinda undeserving....Maybe it's just me tho....

I have been in leagues in which teams won well over 100 games and didn't make the playoffs...I recall one league in which 3 teams in one division all had over 100 wins...I chalk it up as "Sh*t Happens".  It is obviously frustrating seeing a 85 win team make it if your in the other league winning 100 games and your not even close.

Personally, i have never felt bad about making it because some seasons it is just luck of the draw.  You wind up being in a weaker division and luck out.  It happens, besides, sometimes that 85 win team makes the World Series and wins it all.  So whose to say they don't deserve it, once you make it, anything can happen.

It definitely sucks, but it's part of the game.  In my last season, I won 98 games, but lost out on the playoffs because I was in a division with a 103 game winner.  The other division winners were all 6-8 games behind me.

This season, I won 104 and won my division.  The team that finished 11 games behind me had the same record as the team that won the other division by 6 games.  Since it was a 12-team league, the team behind me gets to watch the playoffs.

Ace said it best, "Sh!t Happens."  (Everyone remembers the 103-game winning SF Giants in 1993 that got to watch the playoffs from home.)

If you win 100+ games and fail to make the playoffs, don't fret too much.  You were destined to lose in the first round to the 82-80 team anyway.  And on the flip side, I have had uncanny success getting to the World Series with 84-78 teams.

I agree with Ace.  Thus far I have liked the playoff format as-is.

A lot of times when you see two 100 win teams in a division it's because the other two teams are weak, or you have an abandoned team they both get to pick up BUNCHES of free wins against.  I like it as is, even though it does occassionally screw somebody.  I was just in an OL with a guy whose team was at least ten games below .500 in first place.  Funny thing was he was in first with a 9 game lead!!!

Update - he's 69-74 in first with a 14 game lead!  There are four teams in this OL in other divisions with a chance to win 110 games.
