Picking #8 in Round #1.....1st seven picks all SP'ers.......not much left to follow the run with, looking to go hitter.

Best bet Johnny Bench or Pete Rose?

Both have 10 good-great seasons.  Rose more PA's and better average would slot in as lead-off hitter for a decade.  Bench more power with up and down average and great "D" at a more important position.

Suggestions???

Trade down...

I like Bench a lot. You can't go wrong with a gold glove catcher who can hit, and just not worry about catching for a decade. But if you don't think he'll go in the next couple picks then I would try to trade down. After Bench there aren't a lot of hitters that stand out, someone might pay a lot to move up if you don't want him. How about Joe Morgan?

Joe Morgan is easily the best hitter in the draft IMO. I wouldn't think twice about taking him if he's available.

I figured you might be shooting me some false info seeing as you pick four picks after me!  (of course your suggestion to trade down wasn't very helpful in a league that's not allowing trading during the initial draft!)
