how much distro is too much? Topic

I have a DIII guard who would be the best player by far on my DI and DII teams as well. I never gave him more than 25% distro because I prefer a balanced attack, but I was thinking maybe I am not making the most of having this guy on my team. At what point does having a ton of distro become a negative? 25%? 35%? There are a few other legit scoring options as well, but no one nearly as good as him

There's a percentage where his skills decline.  I think it's 25%, meaning that if a player takes more than 25% of your shots, he'll start missing more.  That's not 25 distribution, but 25% of your attempts.

The 25 may be the incorrect number. If so, someone can correct me

He scored very efficiently for you last season despite carrying a big scoring load. I'd tinker with increasing his distro a bit from last season. If he continues to score very efficiently, you're in good shape. (And I would try to monitor the situation without micro-managing it; anyone can have a bad game or even a set of bad games, so don't overreact.)

I would take that guy on my DI team.

I had a guy shoot 45% from 3 (235of like 520ish?) and took 25% of my offense, at times higher.

I had a SG on my DI team this past season that was by far my best guy, so I gave him anywhere between 24--36 distro, depending on the matchup.  He ended up taking 33% of my team's shots, made 41% of his 3pters and led DI in scoring.  He also ended up as the all-time leading scorer in my school's history.  So I say load him up and don't worry about the dropoff.  If he's that much better than your next best guy, he'll still be your best option, even with the dropoff.

I thin you can load it up to 35% w/o seeing any significant performance dropoff.

But how do you keep them from going over?  If(Using fifty points for the starting lineup) You set one player to 17 and the rest of the starting lineup to 8.  If some of the bench players, however, have less than eight set for their distribution, and that 17 player is going to share court time with them, is he not going to end up with above a 35% clip?

Unless the starter with the 35% distro is on the court for 40min, he's going to take less than 35% of your teams shots. And I'm confident to say if the player is set to fairly fresh, even if he has 90 stamina, he's not going to take more than 30% of your team's shots with 35 distro.

Ah.  Total shots, not 'while on court."  Got it.

I am also under the impression that 35% is the acceptable amount that a player must stay under to avoid being assessed the over-usage penalty.
