Sorry if this has been covered before, but I'm having trouble finding specific info on red shirts. I red shirted my 1st player ever this season.
He's a FR. His WE fell (-15), 75 to 60. I'm four games into the season.

          So:
               - Will he leave the team at the end of the season?
               - If I do nothing will his WE improve?
               - Will his WE return to original level at the beginning of next season?
               - If I 'Restore Eligibility' (R.E.) will his original WE be restored?
               - If I R.E. will he be eligible to play this season?
               - If I R.E and then DNP him can I red shirt him again this season?
               - If I red shirt him again, will his WE drop again? If so will it be more/less than before?
OR...will he accept the red shirt without a WE drop?
               - If I R.E. will allowing some games to pass before trying again make him more/less willing to accept the red shirt without WE drop?

Thanks for your help...

He probably won't leave.
His WE will likely never go back to 75 if you keep him redshirted, not even next season
If you restore eligibility, it should be back to 75 and he can play this season
Yes, you can try to redshirt him again next season but freshmen accept it better

If he accepts the redshirt, his WE won't drop.  I've had reshirts accept after my 3rd attempt.  Just make sure he doesn't play, If he gets in a game at all, you can't redshirt

If his WE takes that much of a hit, he will not gain as much as he normally should as a freshman.. I typically make sure the player doesnt get a second of playing time all year and then I apply the redshirt after the conference tourney when player gains end.  This way, the player gained all year with his normal work ethic and the players are more apt to accept the RS knowing they did not get in the entire year.  And even if the player doesnt accept the RS, he still would have gained all season long with his 75 WE, so the only attribute that will take a hit is his WE.. Its a WIN-WIN..

I thought you couldnt redshirt after the first 2 exhibition games of the season?

If it's a guy you really want to redshirt then I don't think the drop from 75 to 60 is big enough to force you to take it off.  There's a good chance if you try to take it off and put it back on later he'll drop more.  60 is still plenty of WE.

I would absolutely, 100% keep the RS on. I think this is a no-brainer. It's not a big drop, he still has strong we. He will gain just a tad less this season then he would've with the 75 we, but the extra season of development (ratings and iq) are easily worth the tradeoff.

Oh, and he 100% will not leave, unless you promised him minutes during recruiting.

I grew tired of the gambling on redshirts. A few home visits.3 for normal d3,increasing if elite or d2 combined with the inform of redshirt works great. They say, I was mad but its right choice and accept rs. Of course if in a battle or trying to land that last player for $200,diff story.

I read in here somewhere before a method that has worked for me and it's how I go about red-shirting all the time now.  I apply the RS before the first exhibition game and if he doesn't go for it I take it off before the game sims, his WE returns to where it started and then I don't play him in the game, then after the game apply it again and honestly they usually always take it with no drop in WE but there have been some that still won't so I pull it off again before the second game sims and then again don't let him see the floor during the second exhibition game, then after the game apply it again and I have never had a guy put up a fight after not seeing the floor in either of the exhibition games. Although I have never tried the RS after the season is over that does sound interesting because RS players just don't seem to improve as much as a normal FR who have equal attributes.  IDK it works for me maybe you will have the same success!!

I've only coached in DIII so you might get a different outcome at the higher levels idk?

75 to 60 is a meaningless drop, and in no way should keep you from leaving the redshirt on.

As for this:

I typically make sure the player doesnt get a second of playing time all year and then I apply the redshirt after the conference tourney when player gains end.  This way, the player gained all year with his normal work ethic and the players are more apt to accept the RS knowing they did not get in the entire year.

This strategy is fine, and I usually do my redshirts this way.  But it is absolutely false to think that a player is more apt to accept the RS.  It simply isn't true.  It SHOULD be true ---after all, if a player hasn't played all year, then why the eff wouldn't he accept a redshirt, rather than have a wasted year of eligibility --- but I can assure you that the engine is not set up this way.  No better chance at getting him to accept at the end of the year as opposed to any other time.

YOu can redshirt anytime he hasn't played a minute in the regular season
