So many people have been so terrific, well wishes, prayers, gifts. I am truly overwhelmed. I have become an exercise nut since my multiple myeloma diagnosis. Part of the diagnostic procedure was to check out my organs, and, frankly, I expected the worst. After all, I am a trucker, and my dietary habits are far from healthy. If it ain't dripping with grease, most truck stops won't serve it. Plus, I have been smoking 2 1/2-3 packs of cigarettes per day, and I have allowed myself to gain a few more pounds than is really prudent. I am about 6'0", about 270 lbs. All my organs, heart, lungs, kidneys, liver, etc. checked out excellently, other than the cancer, I was told I had the body of a 20 year old. I always have enjoyed walking, and I have regularly taken some pretty long strolls, and that is my only explanation for my good results. The Myeloma has been re-classified as plasma cytoma (sp?) since there aren't 3 conclusive indications for myeloma. we have two, but not the 3rd. I have really taken the exercise thing to heart. I have been walking every day, gradually increasing my distances, and going 2 or 3 times with the dogs. and, let me assure you, tired dogs are good dogs. My wife, who is on disability with fybromyalgia and a host of other disorders, has caught the contagion, we bought bicycles, and she has been riding every day. I got mine on Saturday, rode it from Dover, De. to Harrington, De, about 20 miles. I have ridden about 10 miles Sunday and today. I feel better than I did before the cancer. Quitting smoking has a lot to do with that. This post is to thank, and update all the people here who were so kind, so thoughtful, and I want to tell them how much I appreciate it. When I was told of the cancer, the only thoughts in my mind were of people I love, and who love me, and God. What else matters? Please, remember me in your prayers, as I will you.

It takes a lot to turn the supertanker of bad health decisions... good work by you!  Glad you're still with us... glad you are doing well... glad that it sounds like you still got some miles to go... although it sounds they're gonna be on a bike.  Keep fighting the good fight.

pf'katt. Good job. Keep it up. I quit smoking in 1979. Second best thing I ever did. (The best was marrying my wife, who also had something to do with helping me quit smoking.) She now undergoes chemo therapy and, starting in July, radiation therapy, all designed to prevent a recurrence of breast cancer. Now, the 3rd best thing I could ever do would be start exercising regularly. I'm still sporadic about it and arthritic knees don't help. But bicycling is good. I need to do more of it. Hang in there, bud.
