What are the best times to promote a player and get a ratings bump? Also, what are the best times to demote a player and NOT lose ratings points? I know this has been answered a million times but can't find it. Thanks in advance!

During the offseason up until the end of spring training, you can demote without penalty but you won't see a promotion boost either. Promoting during the regular season might get you one.

I don't think this is true. I demoted a SS prior to spring training and he suffered a demotion penalty.

No, it is true.  There is no such thing as a promotion bump though - the updates you see are just snapshots of the ratings progression.

You have to demote before ST starts.

I don't need to look at the player.    Demotion during ST doesn't mean you get a ratings hit, just like any other demotion, but there is a possibility.
