Any chance of accepting redshirt? Topic

I'm 5 games into my season. I've got 2 freshman who I've tried to redshirt multiple times, and gotten rejected each time. I'm pretty surprised, because following zhawk's old rules for RS'ing (have the freshman be one of at least 3 guys at his listed position, don't play him at all in exhibitions) has usually been pretty much fool-proof for me. I've gotten the RS without informing in each of my last 12 seasons in D2/D3. Not sure if something changed in the sim or my luck just turned.

Anyway, I'm wondering if there's still any chance of either guy accepting the RS if I wait until game 10, or game 20, or the end of the reg season. Thanks.

For the last 4 d2 seasons, including ranked players...3 home visits combined with the inform of redshirt has worked great. If pulling down, I wait till they consider before. I know it doesn't help you this season but hopefully it will in future seasons.

I once got a guy to accept a RS about the 15th time I tried.  The likelihood isn't there, but it can be done.

Thanks - I guess I'll keep trying periodically.

OK, so I tried reapplying the RS to one of my targets, and his WE dropped from 58 to 35. Would you keep it on, or take it off and keep re-trying later? This is a freshman who has no value to me this year, and strong overall potential.

I would rather have him for 4 years with 58 than 5 years at 35. He will start his freshmen year with better bbiq but probably won't gain the 23 points lost during redshirt. The points gained will be in other areas and not work ethic so his rate of overall improvement for career will be less than gains with no redshirt, loss of we. Gl,hope you can get him to accept with no we loss.

I thought those WE drops were temporary?

Not if you leave the redshirt on...  You get them back if you take it off.  Not if you don't.

Also, I agree with carlnault.  I'd rather have a 4-year player with 58 WE than a 5-year guy with 35.  I think the gains from the redshirt year won't nearly recoup the losses in the 4 playing years from 25 points of WE decline.

I did too once - and left a RS on that caused a drop to 1 WE. Quite a surprise when he came back for his RS Freshman season still with a 1 WE. Of course I had to cut him...

Amazing - after rejecting my RS 5 times, and calling me increasingly cruel names and losing increasingly more WE, my freshman center just accepted it 8 games into the season. Here's his email.

"Coach, I wasn't sure how I'd take being redshirted this season, but to be honest, I'm actually glad you did it - I'd love another year to work on my game without losing a year of eligibility."

Sometimes I just love this game.

I'm 22 games into my season and my dumbass FR 3rd string SG won't accept his redshirt. Doesn't he see that he'll be backup next season averaging 15+ minutes a game and he has not shot in hell at playing this year whether he redshirts or not?!?!?

Kids.

hackerhog, i do think if a player makes it through the year without playing a minute he should be auto redshirted
