DII recruiting grounds Topic

I'm considering making the move to DII and I was wondering what everyone's experiences have been recruiting in different parts of the country. After unknowingly stumbling into a recruiting hell at New Mexico State in DI I'd rather not go through that again. Any input would be appreciated

Bemidji State in No. Minnesota was awful.

States with a larger number of schools have more recruits but, also, more competition.

Do a search for recruits within a state, and surrounding states, and see how plentiful they are

What you really want is a state with lots of D1 schools but few D2s-- this way you get their scrubs, who can be your heroes...

I really enjoy being out west for d2. San Francisco, Oregon, etc. Good recruit gems in the Nevada, Montana,Idaho small state area. Can scout the area without California and Texas pretty easily to give yourself more states. I always find high potential guys somewhere in south Dakota,Arizona etc. Too expensive to search east coast as thoroughly as you can west. Not as many recruits in sheer volume but I always, find gems.

This, for sure.

i know you said you hated New Mexico at d1, but ive actually had good luck at D2 with my Western New Mexico team.  Not as many kids but not as much competition either.  I think if you are smart about who you go after and are willing to take a shot at an international kid or two when the time is right you can make it work pretty well.

I'm in the midwest and it's been hit and miss, but not too bad

I had success with North Dakota and now Ft Hays St in Kansas, and some people say those are tough areas to recruit, so I guess it's just a matter of knowing where to look.

Florida is great.  Several schools, DI and DII, and lots of recruits.  I am in South D. now and I have found some pretty good success.  Really I think it is all about your prestige and strategy.  Look at DII Smith and DII Naismith and the best schools are completely different in those leagues.  Goes to show you can succeed wherever you try.  Just might take some time.   Good Luck.

I'm in the West Virginia Conferenece of D11 Allen and my area is pretty good. You're close to Ohio, Penn, NY, Maryland, Virginia, NC, & Kentucky for states as well as Philly, Pitt, NYC, Baltimore, DC, Lexington, and Chapel Hill for cities.

I'm in Los Angeles and its great.  Lot of players in the area, and not much competition even from my own conf.  Oregon, Arizona, Nevada, are fairly reasonable to recruit.  If you need to hit New Mexico, Colorado or Texas, you can do that as well if need be.

Texas, and grab from Arkansas, Lousianna, Oklahoma, and New Mexico as well.  So many to choose from you will be able to find what you are looking for to fit your style.

I'm in Arkansas in D2 Crum and am always able to find plenty of good players by scouting the surrounding states except for TX, but keep in mind there is a lot of D2 competition in that area relative to the number of recruits (there are a bunch in AR alone).

My comment above is assuming that you know how to recruit and pull down, and how to properly time your actions (when to be aggressive and when to be patient).  If you want to be an area with less competition so you can just go in a grab who you want, you will end up settling in alot of cases.  You get what you work for, and you learn by doing.  You won't learn how to recruit effectively out in the middle of nowhere.

I like Colorado- you are close to Utah, Wyoming, New Mexico, Kansas and some of those other state's dropdowns, especially if they don't have any human DII coaches there.  The challenge is Colorado itself can be tough.
