Quick contract question - I am currently in Season 20 of my world, and have a player on my team who will be a FA the following season.  Currently I have ~$15MM remaining in my player payroll.

The player's demands are for a 4yr/$21.2MM deal to be re-signed right now and avoid FA next season.  He wants it spread out at $5.3MM per year starting in Season 21 and going 21,22,23,24.

I feel this is too much given his age to invest 5.3MM/yr right now.

My question is, can I resign him, give him a big bonus with some of ~$15MM I have remaining in my Season 20 budget and then lower his salary for seasons 21, 22, 23, 24?  Or would this bonus I would offer go into affect for Season 21 and come out of that budget?

No.  Bonus would count against the first season of the new deal.
