Can a good FI kick-start glove development? Topic

Hi all,

I'm looking at trading for a 22yo CF prospect who has suffered for three seasons under an owner who had Fielding Instructors with fielding IQ in the low 50's every season.  His glove, therefore, has only gone up 5 points in three seasons. If I trade for him, will my FI with 88 IQ get his glove up 5-6 pts this season, or is he permanently fried due to poor instruction in the past? 93 patience, 39 make-up, if you're curious. Thanks.

From what I've seen, almost all development happens in a player's first 3 seasons. DITR being exceptions.

No matter how great the coaching after that, you can't get a player back on track toward hitting their projections.

He'll make up some of those lost points, but not all of them.

FWIW, http://whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=2724837  is a CF I picked up during ST from a franchise that had been poorly run for 3+ seasons now w/ FI ratings in the mid 50s each year.  His glove was stagnant at 86 for the last 3 seasons or so, but kicked up a notch after 1 development cycle even at the age of 25 and 6 minor league season's prior.  May just be coincidence that he gained a small improvement following ST, but I'm hoping he has a few more notches of improvement left in the tank.
