After 2 exh games, my team plays competively in the first half and runs out of gas in the second. Being this is my first year with the team, the IQ's are so high in fastbreak and press that it's gonna take a while to transition. But knowing before the game even starts that my guys won't have enough in the tank to have a chance to win late, can I get by with playing a zone instead of press or anything on offense but fastbreak and win games? My IQ's are horrible in everything else but I was thinking if I kept either the fastbreak or press that it wouldn't totally kill me in terms of IQ. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Well that's a tough one there. You have a few options:

  1. Begin the transition to Man to Man: Your defense rating is not bad, so this would not be a very tough transition, but I don't believe it's worth it.
  2. Switch Offenses: This makes sense because you need to play slowdown if you're keeping the press and changing to Motion or Triangle would do wonders for your team once you get the IQ's up.
  3. Switch Both: If you're more comfortable with M2M, then do this and begin the long transition. You'll need to recruit well and spend 25+ Minutes on Off/Def in practice.
  4. Keep Both: I would put this behind Option 2 as the best decision. In the short term, you will cut down on turnovers and your IQ's will make you more efficient on both sides of the ball, but you'll need to go to the slowdown. I have limited experience with the FB / Press, but there is no reason to not be in slowdown.
Hope that helps a little.

Thanks. I think I'm gonna take your advice and switch offenses. I'm assuming man to man d is the way to go since most of the top dogs I've seen on all levels play it. I'll work on that in practice. I play a really weak sim team and I'd hate to lose this game the same way I've lost the exh games. Gotta try something different. Thanks again!

You could also try switching to a combo defense as your guys start to learn the man.  They won't be great at it, but it will save you some fatigue and still let your press skillz/knowledge produce a few extra turnovers for you.

Yeah, it's all about what he cares about more. Prestige or a quick transition. If you feel confident enough in your recruiting, I would certainly just switch immediately, but if you care about keeping a C prestige or raising it, then running a combo might be a good idea.
