I agree with you that the scouting issue is a problem that should be addressed.

I hate spending $3000 on a pair of scouting trips on an international and not learning the core abilities of the position.  I usually get around 6 unique responses, and I always get info on how good of a student the guy is.  To get 90% of the potential of an international its like $4500 minimum and that's pricey, even for D1. 

There should be a way to get less duplicitive results or choose what you want to scout?  Maybe:

ATH/SPD/Stm
BH/Pass/Per
LP/REB/BLK
Grades/FT/DEF/off/def

Choose 1, and you can scout 100% in 4 trips?

Agree with tkimble.  Your story seems, um, not totally accurate.

Im pretty sure that was the point of the whole post that these are issues that should be addressed because they are silly and would make the game better.

I agree, as the way the system is, I shouldn't have taken a chance on the kid. Logic dictates I had the kid properly scouted and logic dictates someone ranked so high should be at least somewhat talented. Problem is, common sense doesn't come into play when WIS is concerned.

Aside from allowing us to set summer practice plans, the crappy recruit generation is my biggest pet peeve, with third being the faulty scouting system.

personally i like the edge the current system affords me

if you can't manage 15 seconds of critical thinking you deserve recruits like this

2) He MAY have been the #158 SG instead of #128. I know he was ranked and I know he wasn't in the 170 or worse range. Even still, do you think any ranked SG should be this crappy? 

3) Yea, I took a risk on a kid. My point is, it shouldn't have been a risk. I should be able to know if a kid can dribble after sending a coach out to watch him EIGHT times. I should be able to know if he's fast or not. And the second point is.... any ranked player in the country should, AT THE VERY LEAST, be able to contribute for a DII school.

4) Why would I keep him? Why would I cut him? To make room to sign another crappy recruit? There are maybe 10 point guards each year for about 40 contending DII teams to fight over in the Northeast. It's hard to have the money to sign another recruit without the budget, much less with the reputation hit that comes with it and the possible problems with other players they allude to.

I don't understand why you would choose to do scouting trips over scouting the state. Scouting the state, you get all the information on the recruit (except if he's high-high) and information on ALL other recruits in the state. I have only signed 1 ranked player in D2 so far and I have to say, being ranked doesn't mean the player is good. 

Personally, I think you recruited poorly.

Because he wouldn't have had enough money to pull the kid down if he had done that.  SO he could have known the kid was good, but couldn't have recruited him.

Frankly, I'm not really buying that you pulled down a 150-ranked kid with a mid-level D2 school, but maybe they changed the range again. 

And, I totally disagree that a highly-ranked (not really that high, by the way, in the grand scheme of things) kid should have great potential.  Kids ranked a lot higher than that bust all the time in real life.

Well if he doesn't have high potential and has low ratings to begin with.... why is he ranked in the first place?

I understand low starts but high potentials. I also understand high starts but low potentials. But low and low?

He claims he pulled him down with 8 scouting reports. Something doesn't add up but w/e. If he chooses to recruit a player w/o knowing his potential, that's his fault.
