I am looking to cut a player that will not see playing time in the near or far future.  I also plan on moving to a big 6 conference in the fall.  How much will this affect my prestige?  Should I cut the player?

Don't cut him if you want to move up in the next couple seasons. I'm not sure exactly how many seasons are between now and 'in the fall', but your rep will take a hit from cutting your own players. Your prestige will be fine, though

If you really want to replace him, I wouldn't think twice about it.  Especially if you aren't planning to move up to D1 for another season or two.  Even if you are planning to move after this year, once the season rolls over your Rep should be back to an A+ (assuming that's where it's at now), if it evens drops at all following you cutting the player.  I've had several instances where it took me cutting two or more players before my Rep dropped at all.  You should be fine with just doing one. 

Mine dropped all the way to B- and didn't get back to B+ until after the job change period

Then I would say that it's safe to say that either (1) your rep wasn't at an A+ when you cut the player, or (2) you cut more than one player, because I just got through releasing a player during recruiting in Crum (that I had recruited) and my rep is still at an A+.  If neither of those scenarios apply, you should probably send CS a ticket because as long as I have been playing, I've NEVER seen a coach's rep drop from an A+ to a B- simply by cutting one player, whether he had recruited him or not.  Keep us posted as to what CS' response is, okay?

I'm not sure what it was at. I cut only one player, but I had a guy go ineligible as well and apparently that might have contributed. I was shocked to see it at B- though. I wasn't even qualified for DII jobs with a B-

thanks everyone for the feedback.  I will consider all my options and will make a decision by next recruiting cycle.

Yes, ineligibles will also cause your rep to drop.  Combining the ineligible with the player you cut, could certainly explain why your rep was at a B-.
