I've read in this forum that you can demote an ML player to AAA during Spring Training without risking a demotion penalty.

True?  Urban myth?

There's always a demotion penalty possible.  Ive seen penalties before the season even started, after the season has ended, sending a AAA guy back who was simply a call up... if the patience is low expect a penalty.
