Kicking a Guy when he is down Topic

So I Won a game in the bottom of the 10th on a basehit.  I.Rodriguez grounds a single to CF. R.Winn's throw goes home, but S.Musial avoids the tag and scores.  It also listed it as a " - " play.

NOTICE the "-".  It says it was a poor play by Eckersley who was the pitcher.  Did he make a bad tag or or just a bad pitch?

Wow.  I guess there is a critic everywhere.

Odd, I can't find the minus play in box score.  When I look at Eck's player info, I don't see any minus plays.  When I look at the team fielding page, it shows no one has a minus play yet.

I see it just fine in the box but not info, weird.

But the answer is neither...he made a bad play to let the ball get by him to center field. A normal play would have been a groundball back to the pitcher.

How do we know it is Eck's bad play?  I know that would be most reasonable based on the fielding grades of everyone involved, but the play-by-play doesn't indicate Eck made the minus play:

It's in the column next to it on the left indicated with the "-" sign. If you mouseover it you will see it is a bad play by Eck.

Thanks.  I never knew that feature before.

Welcome. For batters you can go to the box and view fielding to view +/- plays for the game, too.

If it was a bad play, why not an error?  If you are saying it got into CF due to poor range well then you can probably add about 1000 "-" plays per year because every ball that drops or gets through a hole would probably be caught by a great fielder if they were there at that point.

Nevertheless...odd, but I won the game so not going to get too upset about it.  At least it doesnt say, Eck was scratching his bean after the pitch and therefore couldnt handle the comebacker.....hahahah....

Anyone put in a ticket about the missing minus play?

When your game uses a DH, the pitchers are not listed in the WIS boxscores.  Therefore, your pitchers' fielding stats are not included.

I noticed this some time ago when the number of total putouts did not equal the number of outs for some games.  I couldn't understand what was wrong, because there must be a putout for every out recorded in a baseball game.  (Even for outs like interference calls, someone must be credited with a putout.)  I finally figured out that the missing putouts were made by pitchers who were not in the boxscores because of the DH.

Also, in the game play-by-play, that little red - sign for a poor play is hard to see against the dark gray background.

Too wierd.  Just won another game in bottom of 9th.

T.Cobb smokes a line drive single to CF. G.Brett scores

Same thing, it was a "-" play by Dave McNally....

I havent put in a ticket because I am not sure what to tell them other than apparently pitchers are making terrible plays that cost them games.  2006 Tigers.

THe bug is that minus plays aren't being recorded on the player history page or in the team totals.

Um yeah, but that is the problem, the minus plays made by pitchers in DH games don't show up.
