This guy has 70 DUR. Last year in the MiL, he had 475 ABs. This was for another team so I don't know what his Fat% was at the end of last year. He had 57 ABs in ST and has had 175 so far in AAA. His Fat% is already at 97%. I don't think his Fat% should have dropped below 100% after only about 230 ABs. So, what's wrong?

Depending on the position, a 70 DUR can only get about 475-525 PA.

Your players aren't going to hit their max PA at 100% and suddenly hit a wall.   You've given that guy roughly half his PA in 1/3 of a season.   So he's fatigued.

Nothing is wrong.  He's got 70 durability.  He's going to fatigue earlier.

Also, there's no reason that he should have been given 57 AB's in ST.  Limit him to no more than 25-30.  He'll get the same development.  Carryover from overuse in ST into the regular season is manifesting itself as fatigue.

He's in the minors.  AB are AB.   ST or regular season doesn't matter.  But, when he gets fatigued, bench or rest him.

Yeah.  But those extra 30 ST AB's could have gone to somebody else.  Maybe given them a little more ST development.

Are there any benefits at all to ST for veterans?  Seems to me there is only downside - although I've never had my veterans completely skip ST, I definitely limit their time, especially for low DU, or low HE...

Very tiny sample size but I've sat older vets out(low dur/stm/health).   They took hits I wasn't expecting.

Actually, the reason he got so many ST ABs was twofold. First, I just got him in a trade and I wanted to see what he could do. Second, I don't like to give my ML vets to many ST ABs, so he saw a lot more playing time than he would have if he was going to be on the ML squad. I'll just have to rest him and monitor his ABs for the rest of the season.

"Seeing what he can do" probably isn't going to be very meaningful because he'd be seeing a mix of major league quality and minor league quality.  That would skew results.  I would never trust spring training stats to give me any kind of idea about performance.  That, and the small sample size.

That's the point, though. He was slated for AAA, but I wanted to see how he would do against some ML pitchers.

Assuming the other teams are working a mix of MLers and prospects, then you'll be making an evaluation off too small of a sample size.  I wouldn't trust it.

I obviously overused him in ST. A mistake I won't make again. I now have to activate/deactivate him at AAA every so often to keep him fresh. He will probably be a MLer down the road, so I want to keep the chance of injury to a minimum.
