Anyone up for a themed team conference? Topic

After winning a National title with a profile named Billy Graham and only recruiting players with names that appear in the Bible, I was wondering if anyone would be interested in trying to develop a conference of "themed" teams. From another forum someone thought it would be cool to have a team only of bald players and another person suggested a team of small white guys with good athleticism - in other words a white me can camp team. Another possibility would be to have a team with players with a noun in their name, like Jim Lamp, Rodney Foote (spelling would not matter). Maybe another one would be just players with international names.

In the Iba, the North Atlantic conference does not have any teams right now. We could all be in that one.

Before I grab a team, I thought I would see if anyone else has an interest in giving this a shot. If so, post what the theme of your team would be. Once we get like 4 at least, I'll go ahead and grab a team.

Here is what Dacj is referring to:

Hey guys, I've just recently been alerted to your plans for this "theme" conference.   This is a fun, creative idea for team building.  Something like this fits perfectly into our SimLeague model, where each league is independent and has no effect on others.  But in a dynasty game, you would be affecting other teams/coaches who are not a part of this idea.  Their game experience could be negatively impacted by the oddities in recruiting and game-planning.

Another problem is that this scenario, while well intentioned, does constitute collusion in regards to recruiting.   You're more than welcome to all join the same conference, but I ask that you please don't follow through with this concept.

Thanks

Man - that stinks. I guess I can understand because it would probably make a conference weak. However, a conference that has no human coaches is going to be weaker than a conference of themed teams that are run by experienced coaches who know how to recruit. And I have proven that a "themed" team can be extremely competitive, by winning a national title with a team of players named after Bible characters. I don't understand the collusion argument though. I could understand if everyone in the league had two letters they could recruit from, or if the themes were divided in some other way that no team would ever try to recruit another teams prospect, but if one guy was building a team of bald players, and another team recruiting players with a noun for a name, there are going to be some bald players with a noun for a name that both might go after. Oh well. I have 6 teams already, so I guess I'll just not spend the extra money.

If seble reads this and has a change of heart, please sitemail me and post something here.

the problem is that although this sort of cooperation does not seem to have any harmful effect - except to make the teams weaker - it is not a big step to a conference in which teams allocate players in some other way that does pose unfairness.....I get all the kids within 100 miles of my school and so do you......I really need a guard this year, so I get the nearby guards and you get the nearby bigs...etc etc....

If you want a rule that bans collusion and allocation of players, it is no doubt easier to have a bright line than to start saying that some allocations are okay and some are not....

Its a shame to stifle fun, but I bet that is the thinking.....the lawyer in me comes out

It also can give advantages to conference mates who would know who others would and would not target.  For example, if there was a really good player named Warren right next to Billy Graham's school - coaches who didn't know the themes might avoid him, but conference mates would know that since there was no Warren in the Bible (to the best of my recollection), Billy wouldn't be targeting him.
