My best D3 Point Guard Topic

I expect that my player will be topped shortly.  That's sort of the point along with giving me a few minutes to brag until somebody puts me in my place with an even better player.  But since might be the best guy I've developed in 70 seasons of HD I figured I'd take the chance to boast.

Keith Edgar

Name Yr. Pos. A SPD REB DE BLK LP PE BH P WE ST DU FT TOT
Keith Edgar Sr. PG 54 90 1 60 6 18 93 94 93 58 86 42 B- 695

And as nifty of a player as he is, I only got the max out message for free throw shooting.  It hurts just a tiny bit to know I left some talent undeveloped.

As it is, he's in a class of his own for D3 point guards in Allen.  Some might match him in a skill but nobody comes close to having his full skill set.

90 speed is #13 in all of Allen.

Athleticism of 54 and defense of 60 aren't all that impressive at face value.  But of the guys on the top 25 speed list in Allen, Edgar has the 2nd best athleticism rating and is tied for the best defensive rating.

The perimeter rating of 93 doesn't make a top 25 list but it is quite good and is also the best PER rating for those on the top 25 speed list.

Ball handling of 94 is #5 in D3.

Passing rating of 93 is #1 in D3.  (After Edgar is an 88, then a 87, and then it drops all the way to 83.)

For the top 25 ball handlers, only one other player has a passing rating above 80.  For the top 25 passers, only two players have ball handling ratings above 81.

Essentially, while there are a handful of guards that can match up with Edgar in one category, then can't match him in the rest.  He's the first guard I've seen in the current recruit schema that has made it to 90 in speed, perimeter, ball handling, and passing.

So I think this is my best effort yet.  And waiting (and sort of hoping actually) to see even better players posted here.

not my player, but i bookmarked this guy because he just stood out so much - and he's only a junior

Edgar is probably the best pure point guard with the bh/passing/speed combo, but I don't know if I'm not sure if I would have him over some of the 85+/85+ ath/spd guards out there.

Edgar is a 4 star recruit in DI.

That defense blows out my submission, but here  is the best pg I've ever had.
4th in speed and the athleticism is 13 points higher than anyone else with 95 or above (although his backcourt mate has a higher combe of speed/ath).
Per is 1 point behind the top guy in the top 5.
LP (I've found LP to be very beneficial to pg's) is 17 points higher.
2nd in all of Tark in BH and 1st in passing.
And, now that I look at it...his defense is actually 2nd on the list of the top 5 speed guys.

I'd take Edgar over him, but I actually think I like Tyrell even more than I did before.  Fun game!

Do these guys still even exist in D3? Looking at Knight there are only 2 guys who even come remotely close to being 85+ in both and one is 74ath/81sp another is 72ath/87sp. In tark there's an 81ath/84sp who you have and in Phelan the closest is 71ath/92sp. So in all 3 worlds I'm in there isn't one 85/85 guy and the closest is 81/84.

There were a few of them in Wooden (on Beloit and someone else) 2 seasons ago.  I have an 81/84 in Tark who should be 83/90+ by SR year. I also have a 81/93 ath/spd PG in Naismith.

71/92 in Phelan, that's pretty close to 85/85. Any combination of ath/spd over 160 (even over 150 for D3) is pretty much pure domination. I had a 90/71 SG in Phelan 2 seasons ago with decent lp. He was shooting .530 on the season and whoever guarded him either gets in foul trouble or fouls out in 20min. That's a huge advantage.

I just recruited pretty much the same player from my Princeton team...he was a 4 star and #8 PG overall.

I like that player udm_mike.  I just recruited a guy that I'm hoping will become 85-90% of what Tyrell is.

As to your point, tianyi, I think I might agree.  As much as I've enjoyed Edgar I didn't think he was *that* good because he doesn't have the elite athleticism you'd expect and I probably wouldn't have made this post when I was thinking that.  I probably overvalue athleticism a bit so while I loved the fact that he was a 90/90/90 player in PER/BH/P I wasn't sure he was the elite of the elite.

But after taking a closer look at the numbers, I'm not at all sure how many of those actually exist.  I was surprised to see that even though Edgar's athleticism isn't terrific, his 54 is much better than the other players who have those types of ratings.  I don't see 85+/85+ spd/ath in Allen.  You do have two, but I'm not sure one of those exists in Allen D3.  There is a 85/65 small forward and a 71/88 point guard.  Nobody else is close to 85/85 and frankly neither are those two.  In Allen, you really don't see 90 speed players that have the 54 athleticism of Edgar.

Of course, while those 85/85 players are extremely valuable, they might not be point guards.  The thing I found most impressive about Edgar was that he got to 93 in passing.  I wasn't sure D3 still had 90+ passers.  A couple of seasons back I had the top passer in the D3 Allen with a rating of 84 and I hadn't recently seen anybody clear the 90 mark.

I actually had thought about making a comment about noticing that Edgar seemed to be good enough to play for a number of BCS schools in Allen but I wasn't thinking 4/5 star recruit.  Is he really that good?

Edgar is rated almost 700. D1 4 star recruits are rated around 700, so that's about right.
