Dynasty Games verse Real Life Topic

In light of things I have recently read in the forums, I sent this to WiS just as a comment. Let me know your thoughts.  I realize that the comments here will be colors by the bias of players who are fans of big conference sports.  And knowing that I am a fan / alumnus of a Mid-Major School attempting to build a Major type program (San Diego State) will color my opinion as well.  But I wonder what the "Goal" of Hoops Dynasty really is, both for WiS, and for its loyal players:

"I have read the forums and found some of what I read to be a little disturbing. Particularly in light of just buying another 5 pack in hopes of getting to Division I and coaching my Alma Mater (San Diego State).

Is it true that, in HD, the larger more established conferences get advantages in prestige simply for playing in those conferences?

If that is the case it saddens me quite a bit. A part of the appeal to Hoops Dynasty, to me, is that it can separate things out like that. If a group of owners want to take the Mountain West, WCC, Big Sky, or other conference that is not an "elite" real life conference to "elite" status, they should be able to do so without a prestige hit.

Teams should have to earn their status and "create" that status, not just tread water in a low or mid major team/conference waiting for a "Big 6" conference to open up. It takes the fun out of dynasty games IMHO.

Please let me know if the above really is the case. It will help me in evaluating *how* (not if, I like the game generally) I wish to continue playing Hoops Dynasty.

Thank you for your honesty in advance."

if you truly enjoy the game then stay at DII.   Remember,  these are just computer bits.   When you see San Diego State on your home page, it's just a graphic depiction.

I bet your first response is a link to the knowledge base article on prestige... here let me get it for you first - http://wisjournal.com/knowledgebase/KB_Article_Details.aspx?kbid=779

Yeah, it is hard to make a non big 6 conference good.  You need 10 dedicated and above average coaches to do it.  The Mtn West, WCC, CUSA, and A10 are all pretty doable with the right group I think, but its not easy to get a group together and have them stay together.

Thanks.  I guess this is the only thing I have beef with then: "The school's traditional power (does not change)"  Why? Its a dynasty game.  Look I know this is all fake and graphical.  But the whole draw of Dynasty is getting a chance to "pretend" you can recruit guys to your college, and try to guide them to championships. Which is what I pay for.  Am I an emotional wreck over the graphics? No. Do I may $100 a year hoping to pretend I am working my way up to coaching my Alma Mater, because I am a dork for my school? Yes.

I think most people agree.  I don't see why there is a baseline prestige and not some long-term prestige factor.  Even if the Big Six start higher, it should be able to change based on conference prestige and long-term school prestige.

The reason that they don't is how baseline prestige is calculated... if they created a moving baseline (i.e. how the school has fared over last 20 HD years or w/e) it would change things. However, if they did this then they would also have to ramp up the firing logic a bit.
