Catchers with SS ratings Topic

A couple of times lately I have seen guys listed as a catchers with PC in the 40's that also have range/glove/AS/AA scores in the 90's.  My initial thought would be to add SS to their positions and play them there which is the exact same thing their actual owners have done.  However, their performance at SS has been just awful (0+/31- for example).  When they have played them at catcher, they have made more than decent defensive numbers, but you have to figure that their range at least is lost at the position and a 40's PC is nearly indefensible.  Thoughts on these players?  Has this been addressed in the past and I haven't seen it?

Are they left handed?

If they are LH throwers, CF sounds like the position for them to be at (and backup C of course)

Interesting.  Thank you.  The guy with the 31 - plays is a left handed thrower.  The one in our draft is a right handed thrower so I assume he'll be o.k. at SS?

Yes.  What he really is is a SS with a good enough PC to catch, not a C with SS ratings.  It's a flaw in the engine where he's listed primarily as a C instead of a SS.

If its for the draft, it isn't a flaw in the engine. Its a flaw in your "scouting". The higher the scouting budget, the more accurate players' listed positions are.

Flaw in my scouting? 18/18 just doesn't get you what it used to.

Oftentimes it's up to you to interpret the ratings.  Good fielding 2b/CF is quite interchangeable for RH throwers.  Most minor league players who play SS only make it to the majors as 3b.  Same story for average minor league 2bs, they usually can only make it to the majors as good fielding LF, and minor league 3bs can often only make it as RFs.  High scouting or not, this is a regular occurrence.
