While some may be aware that I've been on a recent trend of trying to mix in hardly used players when drafting my teams, and during the course of doing this, I've come across some pretty decent players in various price ranges, including guys like 1946 Hank Edwards ($3.8 mil) who will give you average, doubles and triples, 1919 Bobby Veach ($7.0 mil), a high average doubles machine, and 1888 John Reilly ($6.3 mil), a guy who will give you average, power, slugging, stolen bases and HRs, even in minus parks. Then there's, IMO, the best cheap defensive 2B money can buy in an OL, 1913 Terry Turner. On a current team of mine, in only 48 games, the guy already has 13 plus plays, only 2 errors, and zero minus plays and is also hitting .260. I would say that's pretty damn good for a 500+ PA 2B for less than $4 mil. However, my latest discovery is 1890 Ed Swartwood, an outfielder (C-/B) who normalizes over his RL numbers. He may be a little pricey for some owners' taste at $6.3 mil, but on a current team of mine, halfway through the season at the Polo Grounds, he's hitting .370 with a .446 OBP, 20 doubles and 4 triples. He's made only 1 error and has 2 plus plays in CF. Would you believe that prior to my taking a chance on him, he hadn't been used not one time since the last update? I can't speak for anyone else, but I get a kick out of it when I find new, or better yet, infrequently used productive players.
