I have heard some say speed is pertaining to bat speed and they hit well against low velocity pitchers, is this true or does speer only refer to speed in the field and/or base running? Thanks in advance.

it only pertains to how fast you move w your legs, whoever told you that it determines bat speed is a pretty expert troll.

That's actually some pretty funny trollery, but also kind of dickish, as well.

Expanding on deano's correct analysis, speed refers exclusively to running speed on the basepaths, not on the field. So a SS with 90 range and 90 speed is no better defensively than a SS with 90 range and 0 speed, assuming their glove, arm strength and accuracy were the same.

On the upside, trolls often don't know whether an unladen swallow is African or European.

Re speed, it is strictly how fast the little sticks churn, not how well a player steals bases. That's a combo of speed and base-running. Beware the 80/30 guy -- he'll attempt 50 or more, make it about five times.

I always thought that was a bit weird - fast guys usually learn to run bases well (at least well enough).  It's not as though they are running into the outfield by mistake.

I think it's more about getting good jumps, etc.  Speed and acceleration are not the same thing.

And it takes more than one swallow to carry coconuts.  Trolls may not be aware of this, as well.

Witches, on the other hand, weigh the same amount as a duck.  There is evidence that trolls DO know this.

Maybe not into the outfield exactly, but I picture them getting halfway to 2nd base, then pausing to think, where was I going... do I have my keys.. did I turn out the lights? Or, if they're Red Sox players, will there be any beer in the dugout when I get back?
