Idea to make advance scouting relevant. Topic

So, I have an idea to make adv scouting relevant. Bare with me, as it includes changes to high school, college and IFA scouting.

1) high school, college and IFA scouting no longer affects projections. It merely gives you the number of prospects you see. The more you see, the better the chances of seeing better prospects. ( or maybe even just you see more of the better prospects)

2) advance scouting now affects projections for all players. ( high school, college, IFA's and current players. )

To prevent guys from just putting nothing in scouting, if you did not scout the player ( college seniors for example) he would not appear as a free agent for you the following season ( as is the case for unsigned college seniors).

Thoughts? Any loopholes anyone can think of? Developers, would this be possible in the sim engine, without making it a huge issue?

This also was not as complex as I thought it would be.

It's been suggested before.  I assume it's one of the options they're looking at.

Anything is possible and any adjustment we make is probably going to have a huge impact on the underlying code base. Good suggestions and we will definitely evaluate it as we near a more definitive decision.

If they were to ever go to such a system, would they allow resetting of budgeting?

If adv suddenly becomes relevant I'd hate for it to take 3 seasons to get up to a 12.

Price you pay for taking advantage of the current situation.    Back in the "steroid era", you could pick up pretty much any turd with 85-90 power and watch him put up very good numbers.  Some owners signed them to 4-5 year deals and, after the adjustment, watch the numbers reduce significantly.

I have 0 ADV on all my teams(or will as soon as I can get there).

I'm in the same boat, and if they make ADV relevant again and just throw it out there with no time to adjust, I won't complain for basically the same reason you mention.   At the same time, a complete change of what certain budget line items do and how they are defined would seem to lend itself to a slower roll out than a recalibration of the ratings.  I guess it would depend on what they decide to do.  If they just vary the development model so it's not so predictable, then I'd say just go with it.  But if they do something like this suggestion and suddenly not spending on ADV screws up your draft, I think that would merit some notice.

That being said, now that they are back working on the game and are talking about making changes, I may start putting a little money over there now just in preparation.

Meh.   I'd simply sign type A until I got my ADV up to a respectable amount.  Punt the draft for a few seasons.    I usually do that when I first join a world because I don't trust 14m scouting for prospects.

Innovative owners adjust.

I think this is a pretty good idea.  May be difficult to grandfather in, but I think something in this vein would be a good way to make adv scouting relevant.

FWIW I still wouldn't use it, and I'd still kick your ***, but at the very least you wouldn't be a moron for allocating > $0M to advanced scouting.  It adds an extra layer of depth to budget setting, which is nice.

If it were me, I'd do one of two things;
  • Scrap it, and make the budget 165M-175M or
  • Use it in terms of correspondence. Two ways;
    • "Player X on team Y is not progressing because he should be in AA by now and is in High A. Acquire him, put him in AA, and you should see him reach potential". Not "he's a star", or "he'll make the majors if you acquire him", more a programmed awareness. More budget, more correspondence.
    • "Player X on team Y is underrated". Advance notice of DITR bumps on other teams before they happen. More budget, more correspondence.

Current players once they hit a certain age or amount of experience are never fuzzy, because they have performance. Ever, ever, ever.

Performance fluctuates from season to season.

A player is 29.

What are you looking at when you acquire them, stats, or ratings?

A real, live, MLB player is 32 years old and has hit 305 HR. What could an actual ML scout tell you about that player that you don't already know?

That's my point. Advanced scouting will always be useless in this game if you try to tie it to anything that can be circumvented by looking at the past; player performance and/or cost of acquisition (ie. he was a #3 overall pick and dude had $18M scouting)
