I don't know if this has been discussed here before, but here is an idea I've had for a long time.

I have no dea if it's bothered anyone else, but there has been a couple times where I havn't been able to devote much time to scouting because I've been out of town during recruiting. My idea was that when jobs are posted users with no intention of changing positions could press an option to retain their current position for the following season. After they decided to retain they could no longer apply for job openings. The benefit to retaining their position would be that they would immediately get their recruiting budget, so, they could scout states sooner than the current process allows.

I know it's not a pressing issue, but it always seemed like  a simple thing for WIS to do.

interesting, I dont think I have heard that before and it would be nice

you would have to say that you get charged for the next season right then - you can no longer change jobs and you can no longer drop out - the charge applies as of then - like when the movie starts on the hotel pay per view movie......

and it would be nice to be able to do more right then - would it be too big a disadvantage for folks changing jobs?  well, when ya change jobs you are often behind in terms of scouting....talk to mark turgeon at Maryland about his 8 scholarship players.....

I like it.  I like it a lot.

And if there's a little bit of a disadvantage to coaches changing jobs, well, isn't that just realistic?  In real life, we wouldn't even know where our parking space is.

I guess I don't understand why retaining a team would force someone to pay for an additional season. Don't job openings come open after the day to renewal seasons?
I always thought this would be a better idea than in-season recruiting because in-season recruiting would give new coaches a disadvantage in resources. This idea would only give new coaches a disadvantage in time which seems to be more fair.

you need to make them pay for the season lest they spend the recruiting budget and then decide not to pay - leaving the school without recruiting money - or even worse having used the scouting to find recruits for another school where you then have a full budget.....

Yeah, the upcoming season would definitely have to be paid for in advance.  If you don't know whether you plan to stay, then you don't need your recruiting budget early.  I don't really see the downside.

Ok I understand what your saying now. I was saying to have the option to retain the job when jobs are posted, so, they would have already purchased the upcoming season by that point anyways. But I guess you could structure it so they'd have the option to retain at any time during the previous season and in that case they would need to have purchased another season.

I really like this. Would make the these days less booooring waiting for jobs to end and recruiting to begin.

I'd love, love, love this idea.

That said, last time it was voiced, it was noted by WIS that too many things were tied to rollover to make this a realistic option.

If that is actually true, who knows.  But WIS has noted that it is "too hard" to do something like this.

everything is "too hard" for WIS to do...

It would be a nightmare to try to make the engine process each team individually and not do season Rollover on a single date/time.
