Mid Season Minor League FA's Topic

In the Hometown world, we're about 70 games into the season and I have some depth issues at AA and AAA with my position players. My question to WIS and the WIS community (if this question has been asked already) is why do extremely mediocre 'majors' free agents NEVER accept a minor league offer in mid season? Not only is this unrealistic, but there are ZERO minor league free agents to help fill my system.

In real life, players who haven't caught on with a major league team will most likely accept offers to play for someones AAA team with the hopes of being called up later in the year.

You now have Tryout Camp position players to fill your minor league rosters.

I'm aware, but there aren't any players of AA or AAA caliber. It seems like a waste to just have 27-33 year old guys rot away waiting for a ML contract.

It would be silly for someone to swoop in on Day X and sign 1m worth of AAAA players.   The game is designed for owners to build depth.  Not get cheap, emergency BL talent at mid-season.

You are correct in stating that this is a flaw in the game.  That said, you should do a better job of building depth in the pre-season.  It isn't that difficult if you're paying attention.

It's not a flaw.   There comes a time in everyone's life when they recognize that they don't have a career in sports.    Very few people would go from making 4m a year to 54k without hesitation.   Bernie Williams wouldn't accept a minor league deal and ST invite.  Pedro Martinez said he'd need 5m to come back.  Roger Clemens would have stayed on the farm without a big money offer.   Hell, crossing sports, Kerry Collins needed a big money deal to come out of retirement.  Same with Favre and his 10 retirements.  Professional athletes pride themselves on what they've accomplished.   They aren't going to ride a bus from Des Moines to Bismark after staying in 5 star hotels and buying exotic animals the previous 10.

I have actually signed BL FAs and then waived and assigned them to AAA.
That late in the season, there are many who are only demanding a "PRO" contract. I've even found some who still had options, so straight to the minors they went.

I assumed he's referring to the guys asking for ML deals who clearly aren't, and never have been, ML players.

Still applies.   They recognize that they're at the end of their athletic road.   They're going to move on with their life but wouldn't be against signing a multi-million dollar deal to delay the inevitable.   They aren't interested in those bus rides for a couple more years.

That's actually a fair view on it.  Works for me.

That needs to go.  So many players end up retiring.  Next update hopefully.

They don't retire if you promote them.  Previous explanation applies.   How many guys play 10 seasons in LoA in the real world?   At some point, everyone realizes they have to start life.

It drives me nuts in my league when owners say " I don't promote guys that don't have a chance to be a big leaguer," and then ***** and moan when there are not enough minor league players in the league. I don't promote everybody, but there are not many left behind and I have no trouble getting into the playoffs in the minors.  There are not enough guys in this game or in real life to fill all rosters if all you want are potential big leaguers.  The real minor leagues have many guys that are not big league material but are playing at AAA or AA.  Promote people and you will not need tryout camp players except maybe true SS caliber defenders which are hoarded and there is a lack of in the draft.

gl finding one of those SS in the tryout camp field.

Its the 62 overall LF with splits in the 30's asking for a 4yr/16mil offer that sit in FA for three seasons then retire , cause a problem with worlds running out of players.  I know they retire if they dont play.  Hell, they retire when they do play.
