So my first season recruiting at the Big 6 level. I wanna save my money to protect the guy I really wanted, so I look for lower rated players that might be good with a RS season to fill the other open ship.  I find a 531 rated, 0 star C that is considering no one who has alot of high potentials and a good w/e, so fits what I want perfectly.  Except for some reason this is the response I get to a phone call.

""Hey Coach, thanks for the call to chat about --------. I'm just trying to be courteous so don't take this the wrong way - he doesn't even know who you are. May want to move on.""

I've gotten that message alot at my D2 schools looking at D1 recruits, but how in the heck does this guy not know who Iowa is??  He should be jumping for joy I called him.  Anyone else ever see something like this happen??  Is there maybe an unwritten opposite to the "favorite school"??

He does know who IOWA is. . he just doesn't know who YOU are - the coach>  Never heard of you.

There are dropdowns at D1. My B- Louisville team was getting similar responses from 4-star guys this time around. I'm surprised a 531-rated guy would give your B- school that line, though.

What's his position rank?

I'm at C- Sacramento State and didn't get that message a single time during this recruiting period, which surprised me. The highest ranked kids I called were in the 30's for their position.

From memory- D level guys get that from 60 or better ranked often.  C level, top 20's, B level, top 10's or so.

He's the #76 C, not ranked overall.  Heck, 4 and 5 star guys gave me drop down messages, 3 stars and under were recruitable (B- prestige).   Maybe I'm not the only one he sent that too, cause he's still undecided, which is strange for that many high potentials

Send a ticket. No way that kid should blow you off.

It reminds me of that time I tore down my cornfield to build a baseball diamond. People said I was crazy but then the ghost of shoeless joe Jackson came back from the dead to play catch with me. He asked me "is this heaven?" and I said "no it's Iowa". He said "I thought it was heaven". The point of my story: even dead guys brought back to life by a magic cornfield baseball diamond havent heard of Iowa. True story.
