Does this look like a guy that would be a back up Center on a NT contending team?  My frame of reference for DIII teams is limited.

Anthony Chandler

Athleticism 40

Speed 14

Rebounding 83

Defense 46

Shot Blocking 87

Low-post 22

Perimeter 9

Ball Handling 13

Passing 18

He's reasonably close to maxing out so these #'s aren't going to change much,  He's a RS sophmore.

His DISTRO will be set at ZERO, I know he isn't going to score, and I hope that limits his TO's as well.

My real concern is the DEF.   I would really like that 46 # to be about 15 points higher but it won't be.  Does the 87 SHOT BLOCKing make up for it.

We play man  and this guy is my 5.

Are you talking about this season, or the future?  Assuming the former, the guy is fine as a backup, assuming he doesn't have to play many minutes.  Yeah, you'd like his def to be higher, but assuming his IQ is in the normal range for a RS soph, his B+ IQ and 46 def is going to be better than a freshman coming in with a C-/D+ IQ and 60 def.

I certainly wouldn't be thrilled about him, but he's serviceable as a backup.

Now if you're talking about building an NC team three seasons from now, you may be able to find someone better.  As I'm sure you're aware, the tradeoff for no offense should be great defense, which means better speed and def.  But again, depending on class makeup, he may be a better backup option than an incoming freshman over the next season or two.

Just my .02

For what it's worth, I have a team that I hope will contend for a Wooden D3 title this year: http://whatifsports.com/hd/TeamProfile/Ratings.aspx?tid=3795

And that guy is similar to my current backups (although my guys have some decent growth left).

IMHO, I think he can be a decent back-up for you. He won't produce awe-inspiring numbers, but he'll do a decent job of filling in a spot for the depth chart. If he's close to maxing out, like you say, then I doubt he'll ever be good enough to be a starter for a NT contending team, but like I said he'll serve his purpose as a back-up

I'd like that guy as a third big man.  Check out Everett Gossett on my Oklahoma State team - he's sort of the BCS-conference equivalent of your dude, and I think he might be starting this year.

As long as you have other people to handle the scoring, there's a place for the can't-score-if-you-got-him-a-hooker sort of post player.  Let him focus on the blocking and handling the boards - he's not terrible.

i just recruited a similar guy..... but his defense is higher and he has a lot of high-high potentials.

i usually like have a defensive stopper big man to go with an offensive guy.

i think if that guy has potential in defense he can be useful as a backup for sure
