Going after a dropdown recruit...nobody was on him when he dropped and made contact with me to inform me he was looking to be the big fish in the little pond at my division. All cycles are consecutive (i.e.-I haven't missed any action cycles in between):
Cycle 1--Sent a bunch of stuff and a scholarship offer. Feedback on the 'ship was the thanks for having enough faith to extend me an offer, I hope you'll also have enough faith to investigate my other options schtick. I do not show up on his consideration list, nor do any other schools.
Cycle 2--In response to the above, I send out a couple more scouting visits and a drop some dimes on a few phone calls, as this is typically enough to push a hesitant recruit over the top in my experience. No new scholarship message arrives. The recruit still does not show anyone on his consideration list.
Cycle 3 -- Starting to suspect that I might be battling one or more "unseen others" and worried it might be a team from the higher division going after the guy as a Plan B/C/D sort of thing (we've all been there before...), I sent 5 phone calls, nothing more, thinking that would allow someone making a play for the kid to reveal themselves if they're coming hard and heavy. To my surprise, I received a new scholarship message "You're my top choice right now. If I could sign today, I would! Thanks again for believing in me" -- this message would indicate that, if I am in a battle, I am now winning. The problem is I'm still not listed on his consideration list (and neither is anyone else!)
Anyone have an idea of what gives here? There are no class size issues here...he'd be the 4th in his class on my roster if signs... I've never had a kid tell me he's ready to sign without showing me as a considering school.
