How much stock do you guys put in having a mix of L and R in your starting rotation? One of my teams this season has ended up with 4 leftys...I am slightly concerned because it seems at face value to be a bad idea - I have nothing to back that up data wise, just a gut instinct.

Does anyone have experience with this? Will 4 leftys in the rotation hurt me over the course of a season? Should I try to swap one for an equivalent R? Does it even matter or am I just being paranoid?

About 65% of the batters you'll face will be RH.    They'll likely have better splits vs. lefties.   That said, if you have good pitchers, you have good pitchers.   The only time I worry about such things is during the playoffs.   Some teams are heavy-handed from one side and I'd want to match up in the best possible way.   1/4 or 4/1 RH/LH doesn't leave you many options.

Just checked my teams.   3/2 R/L on three, 4/1 on another(which was supposed to be 3/2) and an entire staff of RH on my 5th team.   I'll be trying to find a lefty or two for that last team.

I only take into account the team that im facing, (especially in the playoffs). My Richmond team has way too many good LH batters, who can shred RH pitching. But if a team put a LH starter against me, they'd get shut down. I reverse that thought process when facing another team, which is why it's good to have a combination of good RH and LH pitchers

Definitely Jones.  a 51 vsR split blows.  Last season's stats tend to point that out.

I had never really put too much thought into this, although i knew it made a difference.

On a somewhat related note, has anyone seen a shutdown lefty pitcher vs righties? Or vise versa?

If by shutdown you mean, say, a lefty pitcher with a vR split of 80+ I have several of them on my teams.  But remember, a lefty pitcher with a vR split of 80+ is not the same as a righty pitcher with the same vR split because the opposing right handed batter's splits versus lefty and righty pitching will play a role.

SPs handedness is irrelevant. Only their splits matter. The other team has a vL lineup and a vR lineup. So doesn't matter which way you go, they get last say. It does help to have some guys who are opposite handed in the bullpen. If I had 4 lefty starters, I wouldn't want too many lefties in the BP. If you have innings to waste and righties in the pen, you can put a high pull setting on them.

But with the dominant thinking in this game that righty rules all, it does matter to a degree.  More often than not, a teams L lineup and R lineup are not similar in strength.  Most teams will have good right handed hitting batters, but only a handful of the opposite.

I do alternate my lineups based on the handedness (and splits) of the pitcher I will be facing in the next game, and I also put a premium on good players that also happen to be a switch hitter.
